LOL. But at the same time he's an interesting litmus test. Would the Spurs pay him 8 mil?

I like him. Is he All Star caliber? Maybe in a bottom of the East team way. He seems like he'd fit here which is also a plus.

On the other hand he seems like a perfect example of what he's saying not to do.

Quoting myself!!! Doesn't Calderon fall into this group also? Maybe he gets bumped up because of fit/need, but it does make you wonder if he's making 10-11 million per.

If he demands anything more then the 7-8 million dollar range I think we have to thank him and let him walk. Unless there forcasting the Cap is going to jump alot. We have to be somewhat careful with handing out money we have some young Bigs that are going to demand some serious cash. I might see a 2 year deal for Calderon at a bigger dollar amount but can't be a long term deal.

I thought I saw something on DetNews saying the team thought they could re-sign him for 6-7 million per year. That wouldn't seem risky at all.

I would be very surprised if this happened.
    He is too good.
Someone (as in many) will overpay him.
Still, the Pistons have seen what a talented pg can do for this team.
If they decide to overpay, then you might want to keep Bynum and get rid of Knight and Stuckey.
Get a good value for those latter two. This would justify all the banter about Jose being the right mentor. Might as well use his talent in drafting (or acquiring ) another PG/SG and filling other holes. He won't lose another step in three years.
Team, and league dynamics are likely to change heavenly in three years.
And, that my friends, is how an organization like the Spurs goes about things.

I don't think many teams will overpay Jose. He is too good to be a backup PG, and too bad and old to invest in him a lot of money. Good teams have a quality players, they don't need Calderon right now. I think we are in the best position to sign him.

JD will offer him a 5 year 70 million dollar contract.

So in a sense, you might be pointing to a certain delusional aspect that is inherit within JDs basic DNA : too close in understanding the wish fulfillment of years past (38 Special had a perceptive song about that).
