Much appreciated Dave... kinda like our own insider.
Always thought it was a good thing for beat writers to follow the forums to acquire the pulse of Piston nation... you're doing a gr8 job!

    Btw, CV has plant foot...
" Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva (16 points) seemed to injure his right foot in the second quarter after getting tangled up under the basket. He exited the contest but returned in the third quarter. After the game, Villanueva said he has had plantar fasciitis on his foot the last couple of days but he doesn’t plan on missing any time."

Hope this doesn't become Sheed like.

Maybe it will improve his lateral movement.

Someone has got to score besides Stuck and Chuckie V. Will it be Wallace, Kwame, Chucky, Max, Jerebko, Daye, or maybe even Summers. See our dilemna ladies and gentlemen.

The game started off with both teams struggling and then the Lakers going on 27-10 run to close the qtr. The Lakers outscored the Pistons 13-0 from the FT line in the first qtr.

This is a game that the Pistons could have won as not only did the Lakers play last night, but because of the snow in the NY-NJ area they didn't get into their hotels until 5 AM this morning.

If we had been aggressive in the first qtr like they were, we could have picked some pts at the line early and stayed close instead on letting them stretch that 12 pts lead to 18 at the half.

To bad we could not take care of their scrubs in the 4th qtr when they missed about 9 straight shots and were 1/13 before Phil had to bring Kobe, Artest and Gasol back in to secure the win. Unfortunately even though the Pistons won the 4th qtr 19-10, our starters played almost as bad as the Lakers scrubs and missed out on an opportunity to make it real inter sting.

The defensive effectiveness is clearly masked by the slow pace… slow rotations and undisciplined positioning has been a consistent pattern.

The team plays better when Stuckey takes on the scoring lead…. Not that this is the direction the team wants to head… but it’s today’s reality.... He played an unselfish game (somebody got to him at team meeting)… unfortunately more than not they didn’t convert.

When Bynum doesn’t have his explosive legs he’s just a liability.

Summers has the unique ability to be effective with short minutes for a young player... I like this kid a lot.

Daye tends to disappear more with extended PT… could relate to his frail physic.

The turnovers were more about lack of player movement than bad passes.

CV hides when matched up against physical players.

We should have recognized all the fronting the Lakers were doing and gone backdoor… but this is directly related to a team that hasn’t been together long enough… they seriously need to focus on situation recognition…. There’s a long way to go on offensive options.

There’s much to be said about keeping a team together (once you find players willing to work cohesively)… having the comfort level of knowing where to pass on a double team… pump fakes to get the opponent of balance… multiple options from the same set etc.

I’m convinced that all three rooks are going to be long term assets in the association.
Even though I’ve been preaching mediocrity being a long time killer at least we know we have young talent to build with (vs a complete reload) while still getting a decent pick.
Maybe dealing the pick is the way to go… I have a new philosophy of trading picks for a player in his 2nd or 3rd year… first two years in the backseat can be hell on the confidence… but the third year can often be the breakout year… go ahead and grab lotto talent without dealing with all of the growing pains… being comfortable in your shoes is just as important as physical talent.
Would like to follow this up with a thread on tradable young talent available.

Nothing could be done. Different class of basketball organization. In the complexity of things, certain organizations have an advantage since they have the opportunity and time frame to evolve. It does take talent and the ability to understand diversification. It also helps to have a culture that projects newness, an opportunity of innovation combined with Pal Joey closeness/usefulness. Then you have that Market...it is everyone's mouse with the built on every street corner.

This was the first game this year that the Pistons look completely HELPless. No power in their offense at all. Just a bunch of people playing one on 5. But this is a season of learning and finding playing time for the youngens.

Until we get a big..(I luv u Ben,but) that can shoot from 15 feet out and create in the paint(need I say-Bosh...who BTW, will sign with dallas or San ANtonio) this team is destined for 40 wins a year at least for the next 3.

Daye, Summers and Jerebko will be fine NBA players. Stuckey CAN be an effective 2 guard if he ever learns to play off pics like Rip and DWade. We have instant O in CV and Gorden. Thats 6 quality bodies. The Lakers only have 7!! (Bryant,Pao,Bynum,Artest,Farmar,Oden,Brown) Too bad 3 of the 7 are in the top 15 in the world at what they do. LOL

We need a 100% point guard ( i bet we can steal Chris Paul in a couple of years ,if he doesnt go to New York after LeBron) and there is a resurgence of good points in college.

but tonight...we were slapped like a british uknowwhat.

Team turmoil. We start Atkins? Stuckey is guarding Kobe? Stuckey gets into foul trouble, of course - and we put Summers in as a shooting guard? Then Wilcox gets a DNP in favor or playing Kwame. I know they had Bynum and Gasol, and maybe Kwame fit this game a little better than most - but did we really need what happened the first couple of times the ball got thrown in toward Kwame - the ball bouncing off his hands of stone. (Or how about 1 for 3 on his first 3 free throws.)

LA had a 21 point lead to start the 4th, and put in some scrubs, which let us back into the game a bit. Don't think they ever really got too worried though even when the lead shrunk to 8 late.

JJ missed badly on a pair of 3's, then was seen scoring in closer, a whole lot. (What, 13 points in the 3rd quarter, or was it just 11.) Daye was also missing on his 3's, moved in closer and hit some shots. Summers is the only rook who hit a three for us this game. All three rooks played a lot, and that never hurts.

Obviously, as has been pointed out by another poster, we could have done better on who started. How about Stuckey playing the point and scoring on Fisher. How about Daye starting to bother Kobe's shot a bit. Then you have Summers spelling JJ at small forward. (or starting in his place.)

CV? He took that mask off. Played poorly, provided no D.

Ben and JMAX played D, and just a bit of scoring from JMAX. Ben, if they have a decent sized guy guarding you, that is good enough. You don't have to try to score in the post at that point. Sure, if they put a small guy on you, burn them if you can - but its pretty much a turnover if you try too much.

Since we were passing the ball around alot to no point, LA took the liberty of playing the passing lanes a lot to our detriment.

Well, thats about it for now. I got two finals to take today. Back to studying.

It's taken a week or two, but the rest of the league now has some film on the makeshift Pistons lineup and are preparing their team to play them. I don't know if Q has any other tricks up his sleeve, but this isn't going to get any better until the other kids get back.

Which reminds me, was there no one who thought it was a bad idea for Rip to decide, during his nap, that he would play a full game without any practice, any conditioning, etc.? Somebody was asleep at the switch.
