Detroit finally beats Dallas by 4 points.

The highlight of the game: Greg Monroe posterizing Dirk Nowitzki with a soft little finger roll off the glass.

Mavs have lost 5 games in a row, but Dirk is back so let's hope he has not fully recovered from his knee injury yet.

FYI, League Pass is free this week up through Sunday 1/23. Check your cable and satellite channels for some free NBA basketball this week. Also the broadband is free this week too.

I thought it was just the broadband that was free this week, but I could be wrong. The NBA is probably trying to loop people in to buying the second half of the season at a reduced price.

Pistons win the 1st quarter, led by GM who has 6pts and 5rebs already. The defense is not too bad, highlighted by a great block by Stuck on Terry.

Detroit collapses towards the end of the 2nd and an 8 point lead is down to 3 going into halftime.

Stuckey with 11pts and 4 assists. He's been playing very good.

Monroe with 6 and 6. Wilcox playing not too bad with 6 boards, but got into foul trouble.

    It's not Daye's day today.

CV stinking up the joint, but Gordon has 6.

Predictably, Dirk's having a fine game with 18pts already. Our defensive rotations aren't that great. We ended up with Stuckey defending Dirk two posessions in a row. Q noticed the problem and subbed in Bynum for Stuckey.

Pistons had 11 pt lead with 1:34 left in the half, but allowed the Mavs to close the half on a 7-0 run and lead 41-37.

Dirk the only Mav to show up with 18 points including 8-8 from the FT line.

stuckey playing a solid game so far, hes attacking and distributing on the run...which is leaps and bounds ahead of 2 weeks ago. He seems to be taking a chapter outta tmacs book and tryin to set the table for his teammates. GM is lookin good as per usual. They just need a few more guys to show up and assert themselves.

Pistons win the third qtr for the 3rd game in a row....put up 34 in the qtr to take a 13 pt lead into the 4th. Can they hold on for a season high 3 game win streak??? Stay tuned for an exciting finish.

This is starting to look like a team without Ben and Rip. Another nice win. We may have to keep Tay around next year.

Three in a row for the Pistons as it was basically a Pistons vs one legged Dirk show. Dirk got 32 pts, 8 from the FT line and 12 from beyond the arc, but the rest of the Mavs just stood around and were out of synch most of the afternoon.

Garbage time unofficially started about the 6:30 mark when the Pistons stretched the lead to 95-75. However this years designated Human Victory Cigar, Du Juan Summers didn't enter the game until about 2 and change left in the game. Rip and Max were eligible to come in for GT, but were kept on the bench.

Good win over a team with a winning record despite their own struggles. Great individual games by Monroe, Tay, Stuckey and CV-BenGo off the bench. The new starting lineup is starting to pay dividends in the both the first and 3rd qtrs and our highly paid FA are contributing together. The Pistons won all 4 qtrs today.

At this point, who needs Big Ben, Rip or Max?? Well we will see later this week as we head to Boston and beyond. Pistons have to rely on confidence now and a few wins no matter who they are against gives them that confidence.

Happy Birthday Dr King and thanks for your effort and the things you did... The Dream lives on!!!

Great game. Monroe just keeps getting better and better and our starting unit is actually pretty fun to watch now.

Greg Monroe is quick. Really quick. I wouldn't say he is fast either, but he's definitely faster than most centers/power forwards. Excellent defense in this game, 4 steals including 2 on Dirk who is skilled in the post.

What really stands out to me though is his finishing ability, slowly but surely Greg Monroe has gone from a guy who got blocked WAY too often to a below the rim solid finisher before our eyes. He's crafty, and I have to admit I had my doubts, but he's put in the work...

Thank god GS took Udoh at 6.(Not that he isn't a good prospect either.)

Good game by Stuck. 20 VERY efficient points, got to the line 8 times, and made some very impressive passes, the kind the we are use to seeing T-Mac make. CV got hot for a little while.

Overall good game, beating the mavericks without Dirk would have been an impressive feat. Beating them with him is even better.

Im pretty excited to watch the second half of the season if we play like we've been playing the past 3 games at least somewhat consistently, regardless of the outcome.

The team does look different. Tmac has stopped the bleeding at the point guard that so many have cited, bringing a bit of stability. And Monroe with Wilcox gives the team size, something that Lee and others have been clamoring for. Tmac is not a point and Wilcox is a journeyman and Monroe a rookie, but it is an improvement. Monroe is going to be a fine player. With time, all he will need is to add is a jumper and some moves. He should be great with JJ, both mobile bigs.

Yes, I said the same thing about Stuckey a few years ago, just add a jumper, and that hasn't happened according to plan. Stuckey played well but I can't get over a prospective two guard who is not a good shooter. There are just too many times in a game, expecially late, where the jumper is the best shot and not having one, will hurt the team.
At least Gordon and CV can contribute if they are not cast in a star role. Both have been disappointments but maybe they can be resurrected with a different mix next year. Did Gordon learn that poor pump fake shot from Tay? Just shoot the jumper, please.
Tay was exceptional. No, he will not sign with the Pistons. You heard it here first. He will want to play the latter part of his prime on a contender.
The team still needs another top prospect (draft) and a big man along the lines of a Randolf or a Scola.

Monroe is learning just like JJ did last year....with increase play and confidence with the coach giving him a starting role. No matter when Big Ben comes back, Monroe needs to continue to start and Ben brought in for situational work when defense needs his skills. The Wilcox-Monroe pairing is definitely working out so far compared to the Wallace-Maxiel pairing.

No complaint from me on this one, great game from the beginning as we won EVERY qtr. The new lineup, new rotation with guys in their new roles seems to be the best team we can put out on the court with the players that we have assembled here.

Tay was steady as usual and continues to play the best basketball of his career.

Bengo and CV earned their check with some good offense off the bench and just enough defense to not negate their offensive contributions and Bynum did alright.

Austin Daye needs to get it together, too fragile mentally, he allows too many things to get into his head and throw his game off, missed shots, bad call etc etc. Daye needs to do more than be able to hit the weak side J when the ball is rotated to him, teams are now starting to get out on him and he has to adjust his game. But Daye has shown he's a legit NBA talent, what he hasn't shown is if he can materialize that talent night in and night out over the course of an NBA season, but seeing the way Greg Monroe improved over the season I'm going to be optimistic about Daye.

Speaking of Greg Monroe, WOW! This dude is a steal wizard, it's a marvelous skill and I haven't seen a big guy steal the ball this well since Hakeem, This isn't aguy in passing lanes that lucks up on a steal, he is picking the pockets of ANYBODY who fails to protect the ball EXTREMELY well in his presence. At 6'11'' he actually picked the pocket (off the bounce) of a 5'10'' JJ Barea at half-court, folks that is AMAZING!

Rodney Stuckey almost had me sitting in front of my television crying tears of joy he played so well. The kid was an amazing display of efficiency and he made one great decision after another with the ball, 20points on 6/8 shooting with 6 asts! WAY TO GO KID!!!!! Moving him off the point has him looking so much more relaxed and comfortable out on the floor. Also, with Stuckey off the point, his driving lanes are different, most of his drives are coming from the wing against a rotating defense as opposed to when he was running the point and attacking from the middle of the floor, subtle, but notice the decrease in collisions and the increase in FT attempts.
