It's been a while since someone had a double-double with rebounds and assists only.

After seeing Monroe play - specifically against ATL which I missed - does anyone think he could play the 4? If yes, they should start him and move Daye back to the 3.

At this point I might start him at the 5 if he can't run the 4 spot.

You left out Bad Back Wilcox. He's out with a hamstring. He was probably placing undo strain on it from the bad back.

Here is a commenter from the article you linked:

"Bad Hamstring Wilcox" just doesn't have the same ring to it.

...Speaking of nicknames, I think "Silver Spoon" is a pretty good one to add to the list of nicks for Rodney Stuckey (aka: Young 50, Runnin' Rodney, Super Collider, Jogging Rodney, Joggernaught, etc.).

I was just thinking the same thing. I was trying to figure out a way to work Richard Schroder into it. Silver Spoon aka Ricky Stratton.

Good win. Ground it out at the end.

Charlotte has the players, they just cant seem to get it together.

    Tyrus Thomas is so overrated...

Pistons win!!! Some really good play during the first half, in particular by T-Mac. He looks better and better. Looked like the collapse was upon us again in the third and parts of the fourth but we managed to ride it out. G-Mon made a few big plays when it mattered and Bengo was shooting his lights out. However the smallball unit had nothing on their 3-point game so it looked pretty shaky defensivily for a while.

    GO PISTONS!

I will leave it to someone else to start the Trade Stuckey and Max thread, but we finally got the monkey off our backs with a much needed victory.

It almost looked like a Piston redux as they blew a 22 point lead as the Bobcats erased it all the way down to 61-60 with less than 3 mins in the third, before the Pistons woke up and closed out the third on a 11-4 run to lead 72-64.

As they open the fourth there were nervous fans at the palace, in the chat room and the homes on both the Dumars and Kuester families as they knew daddy would not be in a good mood if they loss this one after playing their best quarter of the season in the first and almost blowing another second half double digit lead.

In chat we yelled for Kuester to pull Bynum, who was at one point singlehandedly keeping the Bcats in the game. But Tmac who was great starting in place of Stuckey had already given us 23 minutes and was in rubdown mode and obviously done for the night. Bynum redeemed himself and his coach by weaving in for a nice hoop in crunch time and made his FT's down the stretch.

Rip coming off the bench will do if he is to stay around. He was deadly at the FT line going 11-11 and lead the Pistons to their best FT shooting of the young season going 26-27 and believe me they needed everyone of them as the our poor three point perimeter defense almost loss this one in the end. Except for the 2-2 tie at the beginning, the Pistons led wire to wire.

Once again Monroe looked good with 9 pts, 6 brds, one assist and one block...sorry but not sure if my Facebook friend JMax could have given us those stats.

Stuckey was dressed and they did show him yawning down the stretch and he did come out and hi-five his team some encouragement during a late time out.

Meaningless stat of the night....Piston 6 assists in the first qtr, 8 the rest of the game for a total of 14......Ben led the team with four assists, all in the first qtr.... the Bobcats finished with 28.

Hey,! we got the monkey off our back !
28 assists for Bobs and only 90 pt. Kind of sounds like they coundn't do anything unless they found the open man.
    TMac sighting, it's all good.

Of note, we won. Wow. Great to see a win. Any win. Even against the now 1-4 Bobcats. They started Mohammed at center, such a light weight that even our thin front line could contend with them. But Larry Brown wizened up in the 2nd half and put in a couple of better defenders to start the 2nd half. And then, the Pistons simply could not score. It did not help that Tay had played most of the first half, that TMAC had nearly maxed out in knee minutes already for the past couple of days, that our point guard was benched, that JMAX is not playing for some reason, that Ben Wallace is just getting old, etc. All the team's problems surfaced in that 3rd quarter where a once 22 point lead shrank to just 1.

Q did make an adjustment. He took out Daye real early in the 3rd, the guy who was plus 17 in his 17 minutes in the game to that point, and put in CV. Which of course just fueled Charlotte's comeback even more. CV redeemed himself though with 2 clutch 3 pointers to end the 3rd quarter and help us avoid complete and total embarrassment. The last 3 by CV was really something, going in as the buzzer sounded. We had like 4 seconds to get the ball up the floor, and get the shot. CV took his time, got almost right to the 3 line, and nailed the shot.

Rip Hamilton managed 11 for 11 at the line. And this was not his old game of hey, let the rest of the team adjust to his game. Nope, it was Rip actually going inside and drawing fouls. Rip did hit a three too. Nothing wrong with a set 3 from Rip on occasion, just as long as he keeps going inside a lot like this game.

On that note. TMAC looked real good going inside and scoring for us in that 1st quarter as we shot out to a 41-19 lead.

Tay looked like he wanted to shake off the weight of the world in that 1st half of play. With Rip out of the starting unit, a great op for Tay to step up. But Tay can only step up for so long. He is playing too many minutes, and these 2nd quarter collapses are largely due to this. Q has got to find a way to limit Tay's minutes going forward. Anyway, Tay did drive in many times for scores, and also worked at midrange to shake off his guy and knock down shots. Much needed points.

Down the stretch, what was Kuester thinking. Small ball. Monroe, Tay, Rip, Gordon, Bynum. To his credit though, you don't see CV in that list.

All I see from Monroe is hustle. And a guy with some serious size on our front line. In all, these rotations are nuts - but at least the other team can't figure what we are going to do game to game. What if the next team does not focus on stopping Stuckey from driving in in their practice.

Gordon looks as steady as a rock shooting the ball. Just like last season before the injuries started. And if you play him close, he drives. Just love his game.

Play of the game - Rip driving in with 1 minute to go and making the conventional 3 point play. Both for its timeliness, and for being the right way to play basketball.

Tonight concludes an absolute awful stretch of game scheduling to start the season. The Pistons, for the first time this season, both had a day off before the game, and get the day off after the game. Next game Sunday at 6.

Bynum played, and yes, for sure, it gives the other team a great advantage to have a player out there that everyone else has to cover for. Still, he made a few plays to help out, and we needed somebody for sure to bring the ball up. (Another chore killing Tay's legs.) If Bynum was not out there, than either of Tay or TMAC was taking the ball up. Once in a while, Gordon takes the ball up.

Gordon spread his scoring out in this one, saving some for the 2nd half.

Summers did not play. Just caught in the shuffle I suppose. It would have probably helped if he played in this game, both early in the 1st and 3rd quarters, for Tay.

Daye started off early knocking down a pair of 3's. Just an excellent game from him. But soon after the start of the 2nd half, where Charlotte went to a tougher front line, Daye got pulled not to return. I do not recall him playing much, if any, at other than power forward tonight.

I know tonight's games decisions doesn't mean this but..

What if we trade Stuckey and Maxiell ???

I know there are some teams that would like to have them both..

Good recap Lee...I too was concerned about Tay in the second qtr too as he was trying to do it all and never tried to pass to anyone..he looked winded....even when Q called a time out with Tay bringing it up the floor looking for that last shot. After the time our Gordon had the ball, passed it to a beat up Tay who missed that last shot. Kelser said he was trying to be aggressive, but looks like he was taking away from the nice first quarter they had with the nice passing and ez scoring.

First of all, great to have a win.

    Just some observations:
    • when we have no PG in the game, there is no probing of the defense. It just becomes passing from station to station or shake and bake perimeter jumpers. It's a bad sign when your defensive specialist center has twice as many assists as the next best guy. The good news was that everyone in the lineup had at least 1 assist, except for Daye.
    • We are going to get out blocked on a regular basis for the next few years.
    • As Lee mentioned, Daye + 17 in 17 minutes as a starter, and then we go away from him when it matters.
    • Not only did Ben lead the team in assists, but also in steals with 4! Who was the last NBA center to accomplish that feat? Very tough to do.
    • Monroe is a surprisingly good rebounder and I think that I'm starting to realize why. 1) he boxes out, 2) he has good anticipation, and 3) extremely sure hands. He has anti-Kwame paws. If Laimbeer could board with no hops, then this guy is capable. He has a competitive streak in him, you can tell.
    • Strange rebounding game. Ben and Monroe each had 6 in moderate minutes. Except for CV with 1, almost every other player had 3 boards. Great support from the guards especially with a couple of memorable snags by BG and WB.
    • 27 to 11 in FTA's for us. Unusually high differential in our favor. The refs were really letting the guys play in the first half and they tightened it up a bit in the 2nd. I love watching bball like that where is just flows. I only remember 2 trips to the line in the first quarter by both teams.

one of the sparsest crowds i've ever seen at the start of a game, but it filled up decently by the end. fun game to be at as the pistons played one of the best quarters i've seen in a long time with that display in the 1st - sharing the ball, knocking down open jumpers...it was fun.

great to see daye more comfortable, and great to see monroe improving. it looks like he gets it in that hustle and rebounding will keep him getting minutes.
