    SANTO DOMINGO (FIBA Americas Championship) - The Dominican Republic defeated Venezuela 87-63 to end their participation in the 2005 FIBA Americas Championship and also close the Quarterfinals.

    The Venezuelan defeat defined the Semifinals: Brazil vs USA and Argentina against Venezuela. The winners advance for the gold and the losers for the bronze.

    The Dominicans were eliminated by Brazil on Thursday and Panama ended fifth and qualified for the 2006 FIBA World Championships.

    Jack Michael Martinez led the Dominicans with 21 points and Luis Flores netted 16 points, grabbed 9 boards and gave 5 assists.

    Hector Romero led Venezuela with 22 points and 10 rebounds.

    The first half ended 48-38 favoring the hosts thanks to 17 points by Martinez.

    Venezuela played most of the game with their bench.

    The game marked the end of the international career of center Jose "Grillo" Vargas as he scored the final basket in the game and the team and fans celebrated his whole career full of achievements and chanted his name.
