There were three winners in the 1930's, four in the forties, and three in the seventies, but none since.

Today California Crown's bid was thwarted by another so called "fresh horse" Tonalist....much to the chagrin of millions of thoroughbred horse fans across the country and a sour end to the NBC Sports department who hyped California Chrome all day ...(even during the Women's French Open Tennis Tourney this morning.)

Baseball's triple crown is big story within itself, but for horse racing to witness no triple crown winner since Affirmed in 1978, the media hype was in full affect, but just like before a horse who had not ran in the one of the prior legs, prances in and disappoints all but the family/owner of the winning horse.

Here are the comments from the sore loser of the California Chrome....is he right?

Can't accept the whining...unless he made his points clearly...before the race.
To only whine after the running...but be all smiles before the race is the sign of a whine.

I thought it was tacky of Bob Costas to ask the Tonalist' owner about the whiner's comments in the winner's circle. That was completely idiotic of Costas and NBC to try to stir up controversy when they should have been celebrating the horse that actually freakin' won the race.

California Chrome finished in fifth place. That means four other horses beat him. One fresh-hooved horse didn't swing this thing.

It's hard to win the Triple Crown for a reason. We're supposed to make it easier because the fans want to see someone do it?

An owner shouldn't be allowed to enter his or her horse into a race because he or she didn't also previously enter the horse in two other arbitrarily selected races? Sounds absurd to me.

Tonalist actually raced in a different race on the same day as the Preakness so it's not like he was "fresher" than Chrome.

Although Seattle Slew and Affirmed eaked out TC victories in 77 and 78, there was really only one real triple crown horse winner since Citation in 1948 and that was the one and only one Secretariat, who won the Belmont by a record 31 lengths in 1973 and finished in the top 5 of Time magazine's man of the year (now called Person)

It would have been like Michael Phelps complaining about not winning all six golds 2012 by saying that the other swimmers should have had to compete in all the same events that he did.

Or like michael phelps complaining that the other guys' dolphins should have had to swim in all of the races that his dolphin swam in.

That's because you probably predicted Alydar to beat Affirmed...

No...Alydar was the Lions of the 70s and Affirmed was The Vikings of that Era.

Actually...my latest prediction has been spot on....
