This is the place to put 'em. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Tigers are interested in Alfonso Soriano. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/5770502 Aubrey Huff continues to be a trade option. http://www.mlive.com/tigers/stories/index.ssf?/base/sports-1/1144251610180810.xml&coll=1 (scroll down) This article answers a lot as well: http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060706/SPORTS08/607060330/1129
according to truth and rumors website, the tigers are interested in Burntiz-a left handed hitter. The site states: The Tigers, looking for a lefthanded hitter, may go for former Met Jeromy Burnitz, who's usually traded about this time each year.
You could trade a top prospect or two for Soriano, even if he is just a rental, since, as a Type A free agent, if he goes elsewhere you're going to get a top pick or two in the upcoming draft as compensation. Adding Soriano to the Tigers lineup?! Yeow.
Soriano in the Tigers lineup would be a force which would go along with our outstanding starting pitching. The tigers have plenty of minor league prospects that they could give away. Soriano is going to be in the all-star game. maybe in the home run derby? He can play outfield and 2nd base which will help out to in case anyone gets hurt at 2nd (Palanco)
Here is a article that lays out what the tigers need to do in order to go far in the playoffs... http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060710/SPORTS08/607100388 The tigers need to go get Bobby Abreau, he leads the league in on base percentage which the tigers are 9th in the league in. The article sums it up...
I agree, at first I thought, "ehh, he might be too old" but i really didnt know how old he was, at the time i was thinking around like 36, but he's only 32 years old, and brings the left handed power that the tigers need. It would take a lot of pressure off the other hitters. Go get 'em DD.:fingerscr
The Tigers need to make a move fo sho. The current lineup is going to overtake the White Sox. Our pitching is great. Need more offense still.
According to Leyland, the Tigers are not interested in Abreu http://info.detnews.com/tigersblog/index.cfm (scroll) Lets hope this is not true
The Red Sox and Angels are interested in Abreau too. Abreau is going to be in the homerun derby tonight (which will be fun to watch) since he set the record last year at Comerica with the most homeruns in a single round. Who do you think is going to win the derby? I'm going with Thome..
My earlier post should have said that the current Tigers lineup IS NOT going to overtake the White Sox. They need a left-handed bat. Dombrowski must do something.
Lynn Henning of the DetNews has been pushing the Abreu thing for weeks. Jim Leyland said specifically that the Tigers would NOT be getting Abreu, but Lynn has continued to push the idea. A L bat for the sake of the fact that it's L is no big deal. If you can get a top notch middle order type bat, that's another matter, and if you can, whether it's L or R is secondary. If the guy can play 1st or LF great ... that means amongst LF Monroe, 1B Shelton, DH Thames, whichever is scuffling at the plate at the time can sit while this theoretical player fills in in LF, at 1B or DH. Of course, a healthy, happy Dmitri Young can do that, so forget about Aubrey Huff, Jeromy Burnitz and guys like that. If you can't get an Abreu or Soriano quality guy, why mess with success?
Dimitri is never happy, I just read somewhere that he attacked his wife a couple weeks ago. Somebody should send him to anger management. Has he played a single game all season? I can't believe Kenny Rogers gets to start at pitcher in the all-star game! Magglio and Pudge also get to go to the all-star game. Hopefully one of them gets the MVP
"The most intriguing aspect of the deal between the Reds and Nationals was that it sent Austin Kearns to Washington -- a team that already possesses a surplus of outfielders. That might enable aggressive Washington general manager Jim Bowden to deal another outfielder -- perhaps Alfonso Soriano, a player in whom the Tigers have expressed mild interest". -- Detroit Free Press Hopefully this is true :fingerscr

hmm, a "little birdie"..... http://www.twincities.com/mld/twincities/sports/columnists/charley_walters/15048544.htm
Tigers may have offered Nationals offer for Soriano: http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060718/SPORTS0104/607180400
Lemme see now...offer the Nationals two pitching prospects so we can get Soriano and go deeper in the playoffs? Didn't we do something like this about 20 years ago? 1987. We acquired Doyle Aleexander to help us make the playoffs (we lost in the first round and he was about done after that), and we gave up...JOHN SMOLTZ! I guess it depends how much potential those prospects have.
