Tigers head to Minnesota for a tough series

This will be a tough three days starting tomorrow. The Twins have only lost 11 at home all season and swing some mean bats.

Hopefully, the Tigers can take at least one. One win and the lead is 7.5 games. A sweep means our lead drops from 8.5 to 5.5 over the Twins.

I don't think Leyland will do it, but I'd like to see him skip Miner in the rotation this time through. (The off day Thursday would allow him to do this.) So instead of Robertson-Miner-Bonderman for the series, we'd have Robertson-Bonderman-Rogers. (Another benefit of this move is that I think it is preferable to throw lefties against the Twins if possible, with their two top hitters being Mauer and Morneau and the Metrodome being a park that helps L pitchers a bit.)

The tigers win 3-2 in the top of the 10th! Thanks to Craig Monroe (got hurt on the play) with a game winning hit. Our lead is now 9.5 over the twins, but the Sox won in the 9th.

Instead of a twins sweep, how about 2/3 or even better, a Tigs sweep , they proved they could score two runs on a possibe cy young pitcher who has been unstoppable-even though he struck out 12. Miner matched him in the run column, which he needed!

At least you will have a Tiger instead of having an white sox or yankee

Minn has owned us for 8 years. Last year we beat them a little. This year total domination. But then I could say that against all the teams this year.

NEW NEWS: TIGERS TRADE!

The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced they have acquired minor league right-handed pitcher Brian Rogers from the Detroit Tigers in exchange for first baseman Sean Casey. The announcement was made by Dave Littlefield, the Pirates' Senior Vice President and General Manager. No other terms of the deal were announced.

I was looking up the tigers and it this was just updated on their site!

Rogers, 24, went 3-2 with one save and a 2.39 ERA (64.0ip/17er) in 37 relief appearances this season with Double-A Erie of the Eastern League. He was Detroit's 11th round selection in the 2003 draft from Georgia Southern University.

Also: To make room for Casey, Detroit optioned the contract of first baseman Chris Shelton to Triple-A Toledo.

4 errors last night and they lose a sure winner and sweep of the Twins and then 4 errors tonight to a bottom tier team.

No time to panic yet, but lets hope these young guys don't slip due the pressure.....as most so called baseball experts think they will do.

Kenny Rogers didn't have his best game either, he had gave up four walks. Kenny has been struggling, he better get his game together...

As long as the Tigers win all of their remaining series, they can win the devision with a cushion. That means about a 66% winning clip the rest of the way to finish 108-54. Unfortunately the Twins, Bosox and Chisox all gain a full game on them today so the Tigers magic number to clinch remains at 51.

If this pace holds up, they should be able to carry that momentum into the post season.

I've heard people say Rogers will fade bad late. I thought it was just getting by win 13, sometimes guys struggle there. Maybe they should let him pick his spots until the funk is over.

That's asking alot.
SportCenter says Shelton will be back for the playoffs.

I'm sure he'll be back by September call-ups at the latest.

I just saw Carlos Guillen hit for the cycle for the tigers! He is the first player to hit for the cycle for the Tigs since 2001 where Damion Easily did it! Very rare-but he did it.
4-5 night, homer, triple, double and single...

Looks like the Tigers are back on track. That's two in a row after losing two.

Jim Leyland...what a terrific job he has done. I wonder what would have happened this season if Trammell were still here?
