Not sure about his overall catching skills, but his bat was definitely better and more consistent than Avila's.....

I'm not that high on the 3rd catcher Holloway?

Avila "handles" the pitchers well, but he was TERRIBLE at throwing out runners stealing. Part of this statistic is on the pitchers, of course.

Avila ranked 82nd in caught stealing percentage at 17.0%.

Do the math. There are 32 teams. To be the 82nd best catcher in any category is very hard to do.

82nd?? That would mean that every team in the MLB's two backup catchers including Pena, and Holloday finished ahead of him? (and VMart too in the 2-3 games he caught?

Guess they thought Pena was to heavy to be at the plate and wasn't agile enough to stop wild pitches etc.

What were the catcher ERA's of Avila vs Pena this season? Do they publish that stat?

I guess you'd actually want RA, since one guy might have made more errors and passed balls and allowed pitcher to have more wild pitches, etc.

Hello, everyone. If you are a feeling a bit uncomfortable today and you don't know why, don't worry! You see, the day after the Red Sox win a World Series title, the world shrinks to make room for the growth of the collective ego of Red Sox Nation.

If Pena was let go, I promise you Verlander had A LOT to say in that decision. He is the Isiah of our team and what he says goes.

BTW, Tigers are the second ranked team behind The Dodgers to win World series 2014!

Yeah but at the beginning of this year, the Washington Nationals were the odds on favorite to win, with the Dodgers at 4th, we were at 6th and the bearded Red Sox were 15th, so its still based on talent, but injuries, luck and who's hot in the end will crown the eventual champion.

Actually, the Red Sox players all shaved their beards,
which caused a sewer line back up in the North end
of Boston for several hours. Several small animals
    were found amongst the clippings.

I liked Veras despite the lollipop to Victorino. None of these transactions a problem.

    Excited about Ausmus.
