Perhaps he is not confident in the bullpen. :nailbiting:

I believe JL has learned his lesson....each starter needs to go 8 unless he is already down 3 to begin with. That one blunder on Sunday could cost the series, but we still have chance to win this one with Sanchez and Sherzer pitching again in games 5 and 6...and JV doing his Magic in game 7 if necessary...

Unfortunately we have no one on the bench that JL trusts either...No Tui or Bryan Pena.....sends in Igleses to get called out 3 pitches... May as was well as left Dirks in or trotted Kelly out there. The BoSox know what to throw to Iggy to get him out.

Iggy has been exposed. I think many people who know baseball well don't see him as a .300 hitter. He is showing that during the postseason. But I think the kid has the desire to get better at the plate.

Red Sox reliever made our guys look absolutely silly. Sigh.

its over....and Fielder WILL be traded before next year. A terrible season in which he stranded 225 potential runs ........

Our pitchers can strike out 10+ batters again and the hitters can pile up 6 or 7 hits, but as long as no one hits it over the fence, we are just as good as the Miami Marlins..

In this case a dinger would have been great, but all we needed was a sacrifice fly to tie it, and Miggy swung at three balls....and Fielder was just being Mr. Non-October.

Leyland still yanking pitchers in out like he has a lead...good job, but maybe he should have used Coke the other night or sacrificed the run by walking Ortiz .

We can only hope that AA holds, and either VMART and Peralta come through with the long ball.

Another slugfest and wasted effort by Verlander.

If the bats don't wake up, this will be over quick.

How many 1-0 losses must JV suffer because the Tiger bats lay down when he pitches. That is about 4 or 5 this season. He struck out 10 batters, but guess what the Tigers struck out 12 times as Lackey out dueled Verlander and the Red Sox bullpen were also able to keep the batters in check. Jackson, Miggy and Avila each struck out 2 times each.

Tiger runners got to third three times and could not score, which is a darn shame. Infante and Miggy each left three runners on base.

It's tough to win when you score zero runs.

I wonder if Rod Carew or Tony Gwynn would offer up some of their DNA? This team needs some better plate discipline. Maybe we have too many sluggers. The only guys who I see as a discipline guys right now are Martinez and Cabrera.

If the strikeouts and losses continue, that very well may be the emphasis for Dombrowski in the offseason.

Need a closer, too. Benoit is not a long-term solution despite his successful regular season. He strikes me as a better setup guy. I hope Rondon ends up being the guy. His control needs to improve.

Runners on 3rd twice with 1 out. All we needed was any well hit ball in play. Even a weak ground out would have scored. Those 2 K's were the difference in this game.

We just witnessed the best consecutive 4 games by starting pitchers in the history of post season baseball. Our bullpen only blew 1 game. Tonight, Verlander was matched unfortunately.

3 games out of a possible 7 have been played. Don't forget that 2-1 is as close as a series can be after 3 games.

(I heard this on the radio this morning so this is from memory and I'm too lazy to do the research to see if I got this correct.) .
J-Verlander's last three games his numbers are something like this:
    40 strike-outs
    4 walks
    0.030 ERA
...and the Tigers have scored ONE single run to support him.
