With the bats doing the silent treatment in late September, it would have been great to have picked him up after the Phillies released him, but the Rays took a bite on him and grabbed him before any other team to grab him and his dinger was the wild card winning run. I think I heard the announcer say he had played in 16 games for the Rays and only played one inning in the out field since they signed him a few weeks ago...

The Tigers probably made a decision in early September that they were going to put Peralta on the post season active squad, so even it last years LDS and LCS MVP was available they didn't care.....they already had power hitters in Tui, Dirks and Nick....

6:37 for me and I will be wide awake. I just came home from Oakland a few hours ago, and it appears based on the local sports junkies they are ready for an A's sweep of the Tigers to revenge the 5 game loss they suffered last year. Mikhail, hopefully you got your tickets and can represent the D

Poor Indians, went into tonight's game riding a 10 game win streak, home field advantage with a sellout crowd and all the momentum in the world and fell flat resembling last week Tigers.
Good season for the Indians who finished one game behind the Tigers. Although the MLB probably wanted a BoSox-Terry Francona matchup, the worst case scenario for Tiger fans would have been an A's-Indians ALCS.

Central Division will be tougher in coming years with the up-and-coming Royals and the now-resurgent Indians under better management (Francona). Not unhappy to see them lose last night though.

converting a ss to lf is easier than putting delmon young there. one hr isn't that impressive.

for the A's to sweep us, they have to plow through 2 cy young candidates and verlander. I doubt anybody predicting that put any money on it.

I wish I was going. Also, I wonder what Francona could do with Tigers roster...

he probably would have led us to 3 straight division wins and a world series appearance.

If Leyland had stepped down before this season, Francona would have been my top choice.
WS tally: Francona 2, Leyland 1

I like that Tampa Bay manager. He would be good for the Tigers.

Sounds like all of sudden everyone is going sour on Jimmy....win or lose, could this be his swan song?

Our defense is weak. He could install the Tampa 2 Defense.

Converting to % chance (after eliminated the house edge of 17%!)

    Red Sox: 18.0%
    Dodgers: 15.5%
    Tigers: 14.8%
    Cards: 13.7%
    Braves: 10.7%
    A's: 10.1%
    Rays: 9.5%
    Pirates: 7.8%

Basically, odds are that each team loses. There's a lot of parity here and it's a crapshoot. Also, HFA is already factored into these. If the Tigers had HFA for the first 2 rounds, it's likely that we'd have the highest odds.

I'm figuring that if we win the first series that our odds will go up.
I'm sure that if we lose the first series, that our odds will go down.

That's the type of insight and analysis that you just don't find on the internets.

If the Rays lose today's game, the play in the bottom of the 4th where the center the right and center fielder miscommunicated on a ball that should have been caught will be questioned all day. The rookie Wil Myers waived off the center fielder and then bailed on it thinking the center fielder had it.

Did someone from the Red Sox bullpen yell out "I got it" , was it someone from the stands that yell it or did the right fielder just lose it in the sun and bailed on it. Either way five runs scored that should not have and the game went from a Matt Moore no hit 2-0 Rays lead to a comedy of fielding mishaps that yielded 5 runs and will probably cost the Rays this game...still early though....
