Dom made a mistake ?
A win today by the Tigers would have set up a division clinching win by JV tomorrow.....Just need him to take care of business tomorrow so that Fister can clinch it on Tuesday. (Indians off tomorrow).
Only time will tell. The Tigers may have a stud at SS (Iglesias) for a long time. They have been preparing their top prospect, Castellnos, to play left field. That really didn't leave a spot for Garcia in the Tigers' near future. Garcia may also end up being a stud. To get someone good, you have to give away someone good (unless you're playing fantasy football).
he usually trades his stiffs by now
Who's to blame in this loss? The Tiger batters, the manager, or the relief pitchers? All of them!!! First the unlucky bounce by Hunter that was ruled a ground rule double that could have got two runs in instead just one. JV struggled in the second inning and then was able to settle down and strike out 8 batters in the first 3 innings. At 107 pitches, you have to wonder why JL pulled him after 6 innings?? After all he wasn't going to pitch again until next Sunday. Despite the early season success, Smyly has struggled as the set up man in September, so I would have left JV in there at least through the end of 7. At least Al/Al was able to get Smyly out of trouble, but after 10 pitches and he too was retired as JL decides to bring in Veras who struggled giving up big hits and allows the first two runs. Benoit bails him out, but grooves one to the first batter to tie the game to open the bottom of the ninth. After that you had to figure there was no one left in the bullpen to hold... The Tigers need the long ball to come through.....a bunch a singles aren't going to get it done. Tigers now 14-19 in games that JV has started this season. This loss is on everyone who played and coached tonight not named Verlander....

Peralta could be added to the mix later this week. Tigers' Jhonny Peralta feels, looks good in return to action | The Detroit News
Indians ahead 3-2 in the 8th.......
Giambi hits walk off...win 5-4...Tigers better get their heads out their collective duffs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
we re IN!!!!
Yay!!! But for how long?? We are going in cool and worry free. Hope they turn it on in October. Meanwhile those Indians are poised to play TB in the one game playoff and my money is on them.
Need to clinch the division yet. Looking at the box score, it looks like Rondon was lights out last night. 10 pitches and 9 strikes. Impressive. Indians OWN Chicago. Cleveland lucky they didn't have to face Sale.
Indians playing Houston and Chicago in six of their last 9 games was godsend for them to make it to the post season. They just blew it losing all of those games to the Tigers....otherwise, we may have been the team fighting for the wild card....
Embarrassing hitting display tonight
1-0 GAME vs Twins would be good if we were beating Bert Blyleven or Jack Morris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad the clinching is over. Time to set up the rotation.
CENTRAL DIVISION CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF CABRERA PLAYS ONE GAME this weekend ,I am gonna come after Leyland and Dumbrowski!!!!!!!!
Harold rEynolds made a great point. No team had as much pressure to make the playoffs as we did. NOW, this starting staff will be rested and relaxed. I think Max will start Game 1, Sanchez Game 2 and Verlander Game 3!! NO TEAM wants to face that! Smyly looks refreshed, Rondon looks relived and Benoit got over his blown save....I see us Going back to World Series.
Clinching is over...Unless I eat at Taco Bell soon...
As Jim Leyman cried during his thank you interview, Torii Hunter picked him and took into the champaign celebration room. ""We Own the Central"" .
