I really want him to stay unless we get an all-star quality 2nd/ss in return.... I just feel he's going to be our 3rd best pitcher this year if given a chance.
An article featuring the Tigers....and Hooters. Torii Hunter still able to steal home runs | Big League Stew - Yahoo! Sports
No closer this season...as of today. Our experiment was just sent down to AAA. Leyland now says our 7 roster closers will become a closer by comittee. Joaquin Benoit, Octavio Dotel, Al Alburqueque, and Brayan Villareal along with left-handers Drew Smyly, Darin Downs and Phil Coke make up our bullpen. Not really a bad set of relievers. I just wish he could pick just a couple to compete for the spot.
Benoit, Dotel, Al-Al, and Coke could all save. I don't see the other 3 guys getting save opportunities.
JUSTIN WILL THROW 2 NO HITTERS, WIN THREE CY YOUNGS AND TIGERS WILL WIN TWO WORLD SERIES IN THE SPAN OF HIS CONTRACT!
I'll take a WS whenever. I'm glad they committed to JV while Ilitch is still able to consent. Dombrowski's hands don't seem to be tied.
Nice pay day for Verlander. However, I don't think anyone can live up to that kind of deal. I don't know if he is still dating Kate Upton, but with all the money he's getting, he should stay single.
Justin will throw 2 one-hitters, finish 2nd in 2 cy young awards, and the Tigers will lose one world series......... He'll also do a commercial for Wallside Windows.
JV struggled with a high pitch count, but at least he was able pitch shut out ball for 5 innings and deliver 7 K's. Drew Smiley comes in there and almost gives up the 3-0 lead with one swing of the bat. After getting the first two batters out, the Twins load the bases and score on WP, before Smiley finally got them out.
The weather was very cool and with this being the first game, Leyland didn't want to take a chance. If the pitch count had been under 80 at the end of five, JV probably would have gone 6. Other than Smyly, the bullpen of Al-Al, Benoit and Coke looked ok. Was surprised that JL brought Smyly back for the seventh inning after he loaded the bases and gave up the run in the sixth. So of course he loads the bases in the 7th and another run comes in, after Al-Al gives up a hit when he comes in to saves Smyly's behind. As far as the Tiger bats were concerned, the colder the weather got, the colder the Tiger bats became. Vmart needed a BB just get a feel of what it was like to get on base as he was called out on strikes his first bat and seem to just struggle at the plate in his first regular season game since 2011.
Game still in progress, but a nice first outing by Sanchez (5 IP, 0 runs, 2 hits, 3 walks, and 5 K's). Cabrera with both our RBI's so far.
