I figured Justin would want extract some kind of revenge from Texans for taking Max from the hollowed ground.

Went to the game last night. I miss feeling all sweaty and hot, since Montana only offers dry toast.
Verlander looked good, and glad to see a shutout win. American Coney Island was a a special treat before the game.

This is a very important fact.

At the all-star break, here is how our players stack up WAR-wise:

    1. Cabrera: 5.5
    2. Scherezer: 3.8
    3. Verlander: 2.9
    4. Sanchez: 2.5
    5. Peralta: 2.3
    6. Infante: 2.3
    7. Smyly: 2.2
    8. Jackson: 2.0
    9. Benoit: 1.8
    10. Fister: 1.7
    11. Hunter: 1.3
    12. Porcello: 1.0
    13. Tuissosopo: 0.9
    14. Fielder: 0.8
    15. Kelly: 0.6
    16. Putkonen: 0.4
    17. Alvarez: 0.2
    18. Pena: 0.1
    19. Ortega: 0.1
    20. Al Al: 0.0
    21. Garcia: -0.1
    22. Rondon: -0.1
    23. Valverde: -0.2
    24. Downs: -0.2
    25. Avila: -0.3
    26. Coke: -0.3
    27. Santiago: -0.4
    28. Martinez: -0.5
    29. Dotel: -0.6
    30. Villareal: -0.8
Pretty decent way to rank their impact IMO. Peralta and Infante having terrific years. Fielder is the oddball in the all-star voting and barely outranks Don Kelly in this measurement. Martinez couldn't have been much worse for the majority of the first half of the season, but seems to be figuring it out. Tui has been a great surprise so far and is keeping up an incredibly high BA. Jackson also ranking very high, despite missing a lot of games. But the great 3 are Scherzer/Verlander/Sanchez. That is some quality.

I'm very disappointed in Villareal's WAR. I expected it to be much better.

Leyland was smart to take Cano out or maybe Cano took himself out. I hope Max doesn't pull a JV in his All-Star stint.

Looked liked a Leyland managed game so far....AL gets first two runners on base and then the next three batters strand them...LOB baby!!!. Harvey >K's Miggy and Bautista in the first>>ouch:gaah:

Scherzer did us proud...then he is yanked...well technically since he pitched Saturday, he did his thang....and can rest now..

Tom Seaver = 61 shut outs.(44 with the Mets) ..not that many current pitchers will attain that number with managers using pitch count techniques to save their arms.

Home field advantage for the AL!!! The set up is there for the Tigers as Leyland managed his best game of the season. Now all the Tigers have to is win the division, the ALDS and ALCS to play game one and two (and 7) of the WS in Comerica in October.

Looked like a Tiger game as the AL got plenty of hits and grounded into 3 or 4 double plays and even stranded a Tiger (Fielder) at third, but Miggy scored the winning run and tigers got three hits so a good game.

The Fielder triple was one the highlights of the game to wake up a sullen crowd still waiting for the NL to wake up......only wished he had scored..or even better if the throw to third had been wild into the dugout for an unofficial inside the parker....

I am thinking if that first hit by Miggy had gone over the wall for the winning HR, and he had got another hit, he would have won the MVP....but when there is no one that outshines the others, then yes Mariano deserves it.

Good game...considering how JV got torched in the first inning last year and the AL never recovered. Good outing by Scherzer too!!
