Verlander, Fielder, Hunter, Peralta, Cabrera and Scherzer all make the all star team...
Fielder and Verlander probably didn't deserve it. I'll take it though. Might have to watch this one.
Six Tigers on the All-Start team: Scherzer, Verlander, Fielder, Hunter, Cabrera and Peralta. Verlander and Fielder shouldn't be there. Benoit might get on, too, and shouldn't. I hope Verlander remembers his performance from last season. Maybe that will give him a little more focus this season -- if he pitches.
Cabrera homers again in the 1st inning. On pace for: 227 hits 52 HRs 97 BBs 166 RBIs .362 BA .677 SLG 1.128 OPS He has 1 man to beat in HRs and RBIs to get another triple crown (Davis). He's currently 5 HRs behind and leads in RBIs. With Miguel's consistency, it's possible that he can overtake him. In the post steroid era (relatively), 50+ HRs is unbelievable.
Many times, guys get named to All-Star games as a reward for the previous season. In 1985, the Tigers had 5 All-Stars after winning the World Series the year before.
dont worry about Davis...I'll take care of him!......(Bautista2012)
So, they got rewarded for getting to the series last season and playing poorly in it?
No, they get reward for being the BEST TEAM IN THE AMERICAN LEAGUE!
Well Scherzer didn't have his best stuff, but he still pitched like he deserved to start the all star game...especially in those late innings when he was striking out batters to end any threats. The rain delay in the second probably affected him. Although Scherzer failed to get the win, the Tigers won the game to increase their lead over the Indians to 3.5 games. Benoit gave up a couple two out singles in the bottom of the 10th, but struck out Aviles to end the game and give the Tigers the win and end the road trip with a 7-4 record and hand the Indians their first extra inning loss of the season. (5-1) VMart who has finally woke up in late June delivered a 2 run double in the top of the 10th as the Tigers got only their 3rd extra inning win of the season out of 12 games. They had only scored 5 runs in 25 extra innings this season. Vmart has a 10 game hit going on and it came at the right time.
Hope that V-Mart is back. Tui is back and homered in his 2nd at-bat. Finally they are .500 on the road.
VMart's ba is only 12 points lower than Prince Fielder now... who is an all-star.
Tui homers for the second night in a row.
Tigers play down to the competition again. And Leyland waited too long to pull Verlander in the 8th.
And waited too long to pull Al Al, who was getting SHELLED. I was a little worried that Cabrera was going to end his amazing on base streak, but he came through with a nasty 2 strike HR off of a breaking ball. What a stud. Watching JV lose this one makes me realize how amazing it is that Scherzer hasn't picked up an L this year. So easy to do.
You rarely make a mistake by leaving Verlander in too long. Letting him continue is playing the percentages.
You should always take pitchers out 1 pitch before the damage happens. If you say that the manager screwed up, it's almost impossible to refute.
JV was giving up lots of hits, so I would say in this game the percentages were on the side of pulling him, especially with the pitch count.
Percentages are played over the long run. Have you seen Moneyball?
No, I haven't seen Moneyball. And what about taking one game at a time saying?
I'm just saying you should have a slow trigger for one of the best pitchers on the planet.
