Sanchez has been hurt and we are 6-10 since his injury. It hurts the balance of the fragile bullpen when they have to be overused in his replacement starts. On top of that Verlander is struggling.

Thank goodness for Scherzer's and Smyly's dominance.

Our offense has gone from top in the league to 4th ish over the past few weeks, so that means that during that time, it has probably been below average. Bad timing because we really could have used some run support with the pitching staff struggling.

All-star break comes at a nice time for the team to regroup. Obviously, we are still in a great position for the rest of the season.

Al Al (2.25), Smyly (2.16), and Benoit (1.83) team up to pitch 3 innings of no-hit baseball to give us a ONE RUN VICTORY. It's rare, so enjoy it.

And the go-ahead run was achieved through an infield hit in crunch time- 8th inning.

Doug gave up the six in the first two innings, but pitched 4 scoreless innings, so give some credit to him too, as the pitching staff pitched a shut out on the Jays after the second inning. You don't win that many games when your team strikes out 13 times, but this time the SF bunt by Avila and the fast legs of Hunter scratched in the winning run by Infante.

Avila back with a 2-run double and a sacrifice. That's more production than his entire month of June.

    Scherzer 13-0.

Contributions from unlikely sources as Avila and Victor each homer and get 5 RBIs.

Rondon/ Smyly/ Benoit team up to throw 8 outs of scoreless baseball with 4K's. Rondon retires 2 batters on 6 pitches.

Pen is all of a sudden feeling stable with Benoit as the no-drama closer and Smyly as the reliable setup man.

The Tigers are 11-0 when Avila gets an RBI, and something like 32-22 when Vmart gets one......all we need is for one of them to get an RBI in each game and we can run away with the division.....:smoke06:

Cabrera with back stiffness. Infante leaves game after being hit by pitch. Porcello suspended. Sanchez hit in shin by batten ball in his rehab start. Peralta suspension coming?
We have some issues for sure. But every team does.

I wonder if the Tigers will "retaliate" tonight for the dirty slide that took Infante out.

They better not, they owed us one from years ago when we broke their 2sd basemans elbow. Maybe one of their best players.

Wait Clements did 14-0 also. That's a big Boston shadow. Since he did drugs maybe they want his record erased !
    Max will be 15-0 !

Francona certainly deserves some credit for what the Indians are doing so far.

Good recovery by the staff in the last two games. I see JV turning it around in the second half. He said something on ESPN Radio about having fixed his mechanics. I wonder if pitchers in the 50s and 60s talked about arm angle and mechanics the way guys do now.

Tigers up 9-1 in the bottom of the 6th. Coke in for Sanchez, who pitched a good game coming back with 4 K's. Hunter only needs a single for the cycle.

...and Coke gives up a homer with no one on

You can only bring in Phil Choke with no less than a 7 run lead
