Lots of one run losses lately. Fluke.
Well we must have jinked them...I was hoping 7-1, HQ said 5-3 and so far they are 2-4....at 20-15 they are now tied with the Indians for first. The next three games vs the Astros are must win games IMO, to re-establish the momentum. In addition to having the Tigers sweep them in their own yard last weekend, the Astros have lost 8 of 10.
The Indians are playing the Yanks, who have been just as hot as Cleveland, so lets hope pinned striped road teams win that series.
OK game by Porcello today....and the first blown save by PapaGrande.....It's hard to win when your #4 and 5 hitters go for 0 for 9, strike out 5 times and leave 11 runners on base.
Here are the stats for our 3 4 5 batters after 35 games:
Player Ave hits HR RBI OBP Slugging
Cabrera .379 55 7 40 .452 .600
Fielder .290 38 9 33 .417 .557
Martinez .212 28 1 15 .278 .288
VMart has gotta step it up ....or we have to put someone in that five spot...I am thinking the pressure is on him...I know there is season to date stat for LOB....Leyland has to make the decision to maybe take the pressure off of VMart and move him to 6 or 7 until gets his stride going
I dont blame Papa for THIS loss cuz he shouldnt have even been in a save situation as you are right..VMart may have had his worse game all year. He needs a couple of days off. Fielder will lead league in walks at this pace, and he hit only 13 Hr's in 2011 on a GOOD knee. But based on his tep alone ,you got to leave him in the 5 hole. I would switch to this lineup:
C- PENA, AVILA
I watched "Moneyball" last night for the first time and I LOVELOVE LOVE how Brad Pitt as billy Beane tells Art Howe "I dont care about lefty-righty!!!"
Leyland is a dinosaur and doesnt put his player in positions to win. He even admitted it about Raburn Saturday....
Why do teams like KC and Cleveland (and even Chisox and twins when they had more talent) always seem to look like they like playing the game more aggresive and hungry than We do??)
I like your lineup....an agree that moving a more consistent batter to the 5 will assure that we are not leaving runners on base. When V Mart wakes up he can move Hunter around to score....
But as you say, will the Dinosaur think about doing this or will he stick with it until we are 10 games behind the Indians??
Let's just hope Martinez rounds into full form by September. If he were also batting .300+, we'd be crusing.
Agree it is still early...you just don't want to be sweating out in September wondering if you are going to be the division winner or the wild card....
This team is built for the playoffs..YES-getting IN will be the only problem.
Love the Kool-Aide, and homer viewpoints!
Shortening this rotation down to 4 in the playoffs is where we thrive.
Jackson is on DL, they brought up some kid.
I don't think so. Many of the expert, national pundits say the Tigers are loaded and favored to get to the 'Series.

First kink of the season 35 games in...Not bad. Jackson looked out of sorts all week so this is a good revivor.
Berry is hitting only .182 at Toledo. He is one month away from being released.
And that 'some kid' being recalled Thee is Avasail "Miggy Jr" Cabrera ...who is hitting .432!!!!
Question- will Dinosaur Jim let Garcia play and have enough bats to stay on the roster?? Or will this be a setup for a possible Garcia/Porcello trade to Florida fir Giancarlo Stanton????
He played him a lot in the playoffs last year, so hopefully he can do it in the regular season.
Perhaps Dirks will do okay in that leadoff spot.
In the first 4 innings tonight, Dirks already has a single, double, and a grand-slam homerun.
Isn't Kool-Aide great!!!
Yep..if he hits for the cycle, maybe time to trade Ajax
One more softy against Astros then its 4 straight with the Rangers.
I don't see any reason we can't split with the Ranger.
Valverde has allowed 1 base hit in 7.0 innings so far this year. 1 earned run.
Pretty nice pick up as he helped stabilize the team. Obviously, if he's back to his 2011 form, we have a weapon.
Maybe he was overworked last year. Maybe he just needed to rededicate. Or perhaps he's just been lucky in a small sampling so far.
VMart has raised his BA above 220...maybe he needs a heavy dose of Astro pitching ....
Another great performance of closer TIGERS ..UNBELIVEBLE 10 years Always this problem
