By "take over," do you mean hit a baseball?
Team needs a clubhouse leader.......a player who can motivate when the times call for it. Someone who can call a player's only meeting and bring about change. A fan's opinion.......I agree here...... Leyland Returns to Tigers in 2013: Fan Reaction - Yahoo! Sports
All of you guys that want Leyland gone......who do you recommend replace him? I mean, which available managers out there would be a significant upgrade over JL?
It's a moot point now. Leyland is back. Mitch Albom says bringing Leyland back was a no-brainer. Mitch Albom: No-brainer bringing Jim Leyland back | Mitch Albom | Detroit Free Press | freep.com
I always got the feeling that the team leader last year was Victor Martinez... I think we missed his bat this year, but I have a feeling that we missed his day to day leadership in the clubhouse even more.
If the A's beat us would he be gone? Well that's how close it was. Yeah Mik, I still remember the year. But everyone says he stays cause he almost got it done. * You know Leyland use to know how to match pitchers for playoff games. What if he sacrificed game 1 of the W.S. with say Fister and saved Verlander for home ? Does the series go longer ? Every game is a few $million more.
Because apparently no one knew what these Giants were all about.
Game 1 was HUGE. If the Tigers take game 1 in San Francisco, who knows what would have happened. When you have the biggest stud in baseball on your pitching staff, of course you throw him in game 1. The way JV was pitching going into that game, there was absolutely no indication whatsoever that Verlander would have laid an egg like he did.
Yeah, I got nothing. on the road
Two appearances: 1-8 in those appearances.
Finally, a voice of reason on Leyland. Agree completely. Teams laid down for the Tigers. Oakland played them tough but the Tigers got a few garbage wins in that series. Someone said earlier that the Tigers avoided Anaheim and Texas. Both are better teams and will probably show it next year unless Texas has to shed a lot of payroll. Maybe the Tigers should try to get Andrus for SS
The Tigers just signed Peralta. They aren't going after Andrus.
The A's and the Yankees were both very good teams. Who was the last coach to get fired after taking their team to their sport's Championship? Larry Brown is an example, but he basically fired himself.
I did as I live here. I really really hoped for a re-match with Cardinals.
JV's ERA is over 6 in the games with the ump that was behind the plate in that game. Just some food for thought.
Peralta is OK. He has a very high fielding percentage on the balls he gets to. I was hoping for someone with more range and more speed.
on the whole I thought the umps were very good.
The earlier you throw your stud, the sooner he gets back for game #2. The more your stud pitches, the better chance you have to win the series. Some people thought Verlander should have thrown games #1, #4, and #7.
I agree. Dombrowski likes his reliability. The Tigers organization is sometimes loyal to a fault. Al Kaline said this teams needs to get faster and more athletic. Letting Delmon Young walk echoes that sentiment. Re-signing Peralta, notsomuch.
They signed him for insurance purposes would think. If we find better and still affordable, we can trade Peralta. He's solid, good teammate, can play 3rd base, he came through decently in the playoffs, and he just appeared in a WS as a starting shortstop. Money has got to be somewhat of a factor overall. Even the Yankees can't have the ideal at every position.
