Detroit only trails Minnesota by 1.5 games. It's not a long way up. :pound:

If Willis can put together 12-15 games this season like he did today, and JV and Bondy can get some consistency, then we might can get this thing going

Great start by him this season. Curtis who?

Here's a different article from a few days ago...
League starting to rave about Austin Jackson | freep.com | Detroit Free Press

First guy in 100 years to strikeout at least once in the first 18 games of a season. And he's batting over .300? Something's gotta give.

Youth was served in this game....Jackson's 5 hits give him the league lead in hits, and two other rookies, hit their first homers in Scott Sizemore and Brennan Bosch with the four bagger. Not to be out done Gerald Laird who has trouble even hitting his weight in terms of his batting average ,hit his first dinger since last July....

When is the last time a starting pitcher gave up 10 runs in a game, strike that any pitcher? Surprised that Mike Scioscia left him in there after the grand slam, but the Tigers managed sneak in two more runs off of Pinero before Mike pulled the plug on him.

14-10 Tigers looking good the last 3 games.

    FIRST MONTH GRADES:

RECORD 14-10....NOT bad considering our starters sucked the wind out of the Lincoln tunnel. Also, JL made no really questionable moves this month. Tigers LAST in defense... So I give the TEAM a 'B' grade this month. I expected a LOT worse.....

    grades:

AUSTIN JACKSON.......exciting on every pitch, reminds me of Ron leFlore, much better defensively than i thought, his power numbers will come, but i hope he stays a 14-type homer guy and concentrates on disrupting other team with his base running...... A

Johnny DAMON....WELL done...i expect a whole lot less, especially after slow start, ideal number 2 hitter, expect more power......A

Maggs ORDONEZ....started fast and is about GOOD now, I see a good 25HR, 100RBI year if Damon and Jackson stay good.....B+

Miguel CABRERA....all u could ask from the clean up man....AL MVP as of right now....Defense needs to improve at bag...Best 1B in AL now though...A

Carlos GUILLEN...hurt again, but I had him playing only 120 games this year anyway...Still had clutch hits...he is a important part of our lineup..Boesch is a good looking hitter though..........C

Brandon INGE...Gold glove at 3rd,,not trying for the spectacular play...Hitting has been so-so,But Inge is a .260 guy, so... B-

CATCHERS Laird and Avila...Laird is SO good defensively (like Freehan) that his hitting only needs to be average,,,Avila has been disappointing.....C-

SIZEMORE.....does he get to any thing hard at 2nd base? Very good at turning DP's....will be a superior hitter...Nice start for the rookie....C

    EVERETT....Defense has been OK...hitting about what u expect...C

BENCH....Santiago is great...Raburn and Kelly have been disappointing,,,we need a good vet on the bench..... C-

STARTING PITCHERS....The most disappointing part of our team Verlander throws TOO many pitches, Porcello needs to keep the ball down, Scherzer needs confidence, BONDERMAN and WILLIs are wild cards. Dont know what to expect// Overall: C-

RELIEF PITCHING.....A+ Zumaya is back but needs to get good rest, Tigers have lowest bullpen ERA in baseball, Valverde is lock down good

One month ago...I predicted a 98 win season. Now that the math works out with a 16-10 record, I can say that they're on pace for a 100 win season. :pound::pound:

I know that Bill Laimbeer loves my accurate assessments. :)

What have been nice for JV to get the complete game shut out today to really boost his confidence....but I think his confidence is always there even when struggling:)

Need to take 2 of 3 up in Twinky ville this week to show everybody that this team is for real!!

Taking three from the twins would be even [STRIKE]huge-r[/STRIKE] bigger.

Although it appears barring a comeback tonight it won't happen this week.....:yellowprison:

Yea, sometimes the starter just has to go eat up a few innings for the team.

Oops in contrast and much to the Tigers chagrin, the Twins took three to drop the Tigers back 3.5.

Still early so need to panic, but what away to put false hope in the fans by sweeping one team and then getting swept by your chief rival??

Taking 3 of 4 from the defending damn yankees this week was good including 2 shut outs.... Kind of makes up for the sweep at the hands of the Twins last weekand the struggles with the Indians. But still only 2.5 games behind so not to bad

All of the starting pitching did good this week and hopefully everyone will continue their stellar play vs the BoSox this weekend to wipe out ESPN's two favorite teams the Yanks and BSox!!

    Go Tigers
