Joe-D's a complete and total moron; and he totally F-d up this off-season.

...So, I'm sitting here hoping that Toronto's going to be stupid enough to give us R. Gay for C. Villanueva, R. Stuckey and (probably) a future 1st round pick. Then it occurs to me, A. Iguodala signed a 12 mil/season contract. Joe-D could've saved about 13 mil in cap space by amnestying C. Villanueva and buying out (half of) R. Stuckey's contract. STUPID.

...So, I'm also sitting here hoping that Boston's going to be stupid enough to give us R. Rondo and a bunch of bad contracts for G. Monroe, B. Knight and (probably) a future 1st round pick. Then it occurs to me, the predicted rookie-of-the-year miraculously slipped to #9 in the NBA Draft. And he was a point guard. STUPID.

...We could've had this team below, with over 7 mil to spare (which I would've spared on matching or exceeding Kevin Martin's contract ~ in all likelihood, a better version of K. C-Pope).

    C: A. Drummond(2.5m), V. Kravtsov(1.5m)
    PF: G. Monroe(4.1m), J. Jerebko(4.5m), T. Mitchell(0.8m)
    SF: J. Smith(14m), K. Singler(1.0m),K. Middleton(0.8m)
    SG: A. Iguodala(12m), K. Martin(7.3m), K. English(0.8m)
    PG: T. Burke(2.4m), B. Knight(2.9m), P. Siva(0.8m)

This presumes those players would want to play here, and that you would want to play so many guys out of position.

And that Burke is going to be a bonafide NBA PG which is also not a sure thing.

Now maybe it's just me, but perhaps there should be a higher standard for calling someone a complete and total moron?

It's clear to me that Iggy didn't want to play here, or else he would be here. He went to Golden State, which has a better core of players.

It's also unclear that Burke is going to be a bona fide star. If the Naismith winner goes 9th in the draft in one of the weakest classes in recent memory, that doesn't say a lot about how much other teams think of him.

I'm wondering if Joe thinks that he can get to the Finals in 3-4 years and doesn't want to take a chance on a young PG getting ready fast enough. He might be thinking that we plug in that piece.

It's a little early to be writing off the team this season.
Soon...the 2013-2014 season prediction thread (team record) will be here.
That's when the real debates begin.
With more potential changes to the roster expected...it should be fun.
Heck...right now, my projection is 31-55 wins based on how things settle out.

Seems like a dead end style to build around though. Will be fun to watch I would imagine.

    Pft.

    1) Iggy was about to sign a 4 year deal @ 13 mil/season - - to play for one of the worst franchises in NBA history, and in one of the worst NBA cities - - before they had second thoughts and pulled his offer. I don't think we would've had a problem landing him. There are great places to live in Metro Detroit. His former head coach - who he likes - is here. Nice base of talent ~ Drummond, Monroe, (Burke), J-Smith. Minnesota ain't exactly a "destination" for K-Mart either, is it?

    2) C: Drummond, PF: Monroe, SF: Smith, SG: Iguodala, PG: Burke, 6th: Martin - - -> C: Monroe, PF: Smith, SF: Iguodala, SG: Martin, PG: Burke, 6th: Drummond. **"enormous" problem solved.

    3) I believe that Burke is going to be great. At least serviceable, on the kind of roster we could've had. At least better than what we're going to end up having, with what we're going to end up having, Knight/Bynum.

    4) What kind of standard would that be? If his last two "big" signings were Charlie Villanueva and Ben Gordon? If his last three trades were Ben Gordon and a 1st rd. pick (in perhaps the best draft ever) for.. NOTHING, Aaron Afflalo for.. NOTHING, and Billups for Iverson. If he decided not to save 13 million dollars in cap space cutting ties with C. Villanueva and R. Stuckey - - so he could trade them - - and then ended up not being able to trade them!?

Chh. I like the Smith signing. Didn't say a negative thing about it. I hate his draft pick. I hate him not cutting ties with Charlie V and Stuckey - - which would've enabled us to sign Iggy (or 13 mil worth of whatever!!!!)

    1) He was about to go to freaking SAC - RA - MENTO for 13mil/season!?!?!

    2) Am I in the twilight zone!?! ANDRE DRUMMOND JUST WENT 9TH LAST YEAR!!!!? We're skeptical of someone, again, because Michael Jordan and his annual gang of incompetent GM's passed on him!?!

Cheeks has said that he wants to run here. J-Smith helps that. Burke wouldn't have hurt that.

Blue, Joe is not done yet. I think you're overreacting.

Patience friend. The offseason (and free agency) has only just begun.

Did you see the beastly performance by Trey Burke in his first game? Solid 8 pts, 5 ast and 7 rebounds on 1/12 shooting.

well, it's still Summer League, isn't it. Anyone remembering Bonzi Wells KILLING it in Summer League a decade ago? I still think we should have gone for Burke. This Team really, really Needs a PG who is able to feed the 3-headed Monster up front. Knight can't do that

Yes, I know it's SL and the games doesn't really mean anything. But I still except better than 1/12 from the predicted ROY. He looked very frustrated when he played.
