I am thinking Mitchell is so good, we just need 4 players for our front line. Smith, Monroe, and Drummond, with Mitchell coming in for long stretches, resting all three of them one at a time. Now, this would break up our front line a lot - but it would keep us big up front at all times. In contrast, you could play any of Pope, Singler, JJ, CV, or Datome at small forward and not have that.

And with just Billups, Jennings, and Pope getting backcourt minutes, hey, thats down to a seven man rotation. Sure, you have to get a few more people involved beyond those 7. Me, I say other than those 7, with the exception of Siva, go replace them with people with more upside.

Specifically, Bynum, CV, Singler, JJ, Datome, Harrellson, and Stuckey. Trade em. Whatever. Lets try to find another Mitchell out there for a another big. And another player similar to Pope to shore up our backcourt - which would be greatly better than putting the too slow on defense Singler at shooting guard.

Why do you want to get rid of Datome?

He lacks the foot speed to be anything other than a turnstile defensively. C'mon Bill!

I have not seen him play even, yet by his scouting reports he is not quick enough to guard small forwards, while he is too slight of build to guard NBA power forwards. Hey, its just what I read, but it sure does not sound like much of an upside there. We have brought him in to shoot the ball. Who knows, maybe he will prove to be scrappy enough to fit in. But again, I'd rather gamble on quicker players.

He was the MVP of an entire league last year. Perhaps the dude can play a little bit. I'm anxious to see what he's got.

    That seems reasonable.

If you run Smith and Drummond behind him, there is more than enough defensive cover to warrant his shooting. Think bringing in CV with Drummond last year.

I have a feeling Datome will be fine.

I hope so. Some think he might be the backup shooting guard. Where, as someone else mentioned, his lack of speed could be covered by having bigs that are highly mobile. He can use his height to keep perimeter shooters from shooting, and just make a token effort to slow the guy down as they get by him to the basket; to have their stuff swatted to trigger a fast break for us - ending in a bucket by Datome. Guess I will go back to my sandbox and play with that thought a bit. (see you in the rotations thread.)

Datome is a small forward not a SG.

Yea, all Internet sources list him as a small forward. Dude is 6'9". Only 25 years old. He could be a sleeper.

You mean besides being the Italian league MVP and playing in the European championships? Not really.

Not sure about a sleeper. If he gets minutes, I am fairly certain he can produce. In a league that tolerates Austin Daye, this guy could probably be a starter somewhere.

Singler is a small forward. He played mostly shooting guard for us last year. A lot of people see Datome as a possible shooting guard for us. Just like Singler.

lee, you can name me as one of the 10.

If Mo-betta Cheeks was considering "The Thumb" to possibly start at the 2-spot, it's conceivable that Pizza Guy could play some spot shooting guard minutes.
Pizza's YouTube clips make him look like he has some mobility and good enough handles to beat Rip Hamilton in a dribbling contest.
...& everyone knows that 'what you see is what you get' when it comes to YouTube videos.
