Two issues here as Pudge had a legit beef too with the batter purposely blocking him from getting off a decent throw to second. Blame it on the offense though...11 hit and only 2 runs. Got to get those runs across when you are playing contenders and avoid all mistakes.
That call was total crap. No batter falls across home plate like that after a swing. I hope the commissioners office reviews that play and suspends Betancourt for a game against the Tigers. They should suspend the ump for a few games without pay also.
It stinks but I don't think they can do anything about it. You can't suspend a player for trying to cheat that way and getting away with it. I mean, Pine tar or pitching grease...yes. Blocking the catcher...no. Umpires blow calls. Maybe he was quick on the trigger with Pudge, but you don't suspend him for one bad call. We've just got to suck it up and move on.
