Putting Isiah and Laimbeer in the mix as potential hires is done as a courtesy only. Joe simply isn't interested in hiring either one of these guys. I predict that Joe will stay away from all former Bad Boys...He's just not interested in them. The excuse that will be given appears to be the "friendship" card...which of course is weak.........

For the record I don't know if I would want Isiah coahing either. He did not do great when he was one the last time - unless he learned from it.

The only capacity I want Zeke here is working with our poing guards during the off-season. Just like Stockton did with D-Will at Utah.

That was one of the funniest one-word posts I've read in quite a while. :pound::pound::pound:

Yes, I guess he is really a poing-guard type. :)

Does anyone here know much about Sampson?? Any Indiana Hoosiers fans in here??

Does he emphasize the small things? Limiting opponents' possessions...playing great team defense, forcing bad shots, not giving up lay-ups, boxing out like crazy, not giving up offensive rebounds, putting pressure on the ball, forcing turnovers? Making the most of our own possessions...being smart with the ball, making good passes, not turning the ball over, working for good shots, hitting the offensive glass?

More importantly, is he a strong enough personality to get NBA players to follow his lead?

    If so, hire the man.

If not, give me Laimbeer. Mike Woodson seems to be the other of the three final candidates. And after seeing the Kuester-like player mutiny that went on in ATL with him at the helm, I'm not really interested.

The Pistons had the number one defense in the league his last season, (02-03), but was probably fired because they were swept by the Nets in the ECF and LB was available...

RC did kind of impede Tay's development by starting Mike Curry in 77 games that season and the Tablecloth had almost 1100 more minutes than Tay..the rook...but alas he came to his senses and played him more in the playoffs but even Tay was not enough to prevent a sweep to the likes of Jkidd, RJefferson, K-Mart and the infamous Brian Scrubaline....

But look at all of the progress TayTay had post Cola.......he learned how to run like his only motivation was that Kenny Rogers song that said running from scraps was cool.

Who played that song for him like they were Apollo playing Eye of the Tiger for Rocky?

    LB? Flip?

Seems like every other month some coach in the NBA is getting fired so it's not something exclusive to the Pistons. I don't how they rank with other teams but I can't keep track of who is coaching who anymore so I know they can't be that far from the norm.

I do like the prospects this time around. Woodson would be a fine choice but I would still love to see Lamb in there. If it does not work out then at least we will know and it's not like we can't afford to take a risk next year.

Sampson - I don't know about college coaches in the NBA.

I remember having apprehension when the decision was made to let Cola go. I wondered why all the fuss for a veteran coach who had never won a championship. Then we got Sheed...who for that season...seemed like a gift from the heavens. Kinda like Shannahan for the Red Wings...that missing piece.
Unfortunately, both coach and Sheed had meltdowns and the rest is history. I am very happy for Cola this season. I hope he wins...

Could you really see Carlisle and Sheed getting along? At least to the degree that it took to win a championship.

No...it was a good move to hire LB. The results speak for themselves.

Carlisle has always been a good coach, he got the Detroit job because Chuck Daly lobbied for him iirc.

The Pistons franchise has made some poor moves along with their good moves. Unfortunately, winning a title induces collective amnesia and the press, what little remains of it, is loathe to criticize when moods are high and advertising dollars flow freely.

Carlisle would not have made the move. The players woulda lobbied for him though...I think it woulda worked....but what about Chauncey's development...LBs biggest player accomplishment...
