You're right in that there are always teams that will pay, but the new CBA landscape will be rather interesting. Also, irregardless is not a word, and if it were, it would mean the opposite of how you're using it.
That is very convincing. There's even a handful of one way players in that grouping. A $1-2M variance in the contract that you give a long-term big man is not material in my view. I would not be surprised to see him get more than $12. Obviously it would be nice if we got a bargain, but he's going to be attractive across the league for his stats + his clear further potential as a distributor. Good character, motor, and doesn't shy away from contact. In that list above, if Drummond was already on his big boy contract and in their pay ranges, I could see other teams trading us straight up for Aldridge, Lee, Horford, Love, jeffereson, Cousins, Pekovic, Boozer, Duncan, and Smith depending on their player mixes. Joe probably would get a "no" for Randolph and Griffin. Duncan wouldn't be traded just out of respect... and we wouldn't want him due to age. So, those are good comps.
So, perhaps we'll see these two in together to start games now? Brandon and Calderon in the backcourt will make this a near necessity imo, as defensively they will get killed, especially if it's a team with a big enough SG like, say...Kobe.
That goes back close to ten years over at detnews.com. I believe that Lee used to use it, and some of us blew him up on that. As in, "Victor Alexander sucks, IRREGARDLESS of his 48 minute stats." Or, my favorite, "If you take Victor Alexander's per minute stats, and multiply those for 48 minutes, then you would have 48 minutes of Victor Alexander sucking. IRREGARDLESS of how many minutes he plays."
That's why I keep thinking it might be best to trade Monroe. He is a stats player who does not impact the game the way the box score would lead you to believe. At best the Monroe/Drummond pairing feels like an arranged marriage and not a natural fit.
I would hold off on damning the Drummond/Monroe pairing quite yet. Monroe's January 22 game was a thing of beauty. Everything was going wrong for the Pistons. There were stretches where nobody could get points. Greg Monroe got TOUGH points for his team. 16 and 6. When we needed a bucket or free throws, Monroe came through. Drummond and Maxiell grabbed boards, in large part because Monroe was putting his body on guys. He's a player. Greg Monroe is good out to 20 feet. He just needs to trust it more. I'm open to moving him, but I would like to give him a shot with the guys that we have. This could be a really good team.
Keep in mind this pairing see, on average, about 5 minutes a game. That is simply not enough to build chemistry, and this approach would be reflected in practice. As soon as Moose starts hitting, or even just taking, the elbow jumper that tandem becomes extremely potent. This will be even more apparent if there are outside shooters for him to swing out to.
You are right and finally teams are starting to act like there is one. I was wondering, they were still a little free with the wallets like there was nothing new. That new progressive lux tax is too much. If Dumars gave Stuckey 8mil/yr then imagine what he will give Monroe. Thats the scary part.
They traded for Ed Davis. The salary was a bonus, shipping Gay was a bonus. They get back a 40+% career corner 3pt shooter. Bonus This has Hollinger written all over it.
I can't believe that you've been around that long. You're still here and Buddah is gone....go figure???
I just liked a post from 2005. You couldn't like a post in 2005. I feel like I just did something shady.
You basically traveled back in time and deployed technology that hadn't been invented yet. I hope for the sake of us all that the universe isn't altered beyond repair.
Let the paradox begin....and the start of the end of the world will be signaled by the Visa being issued to Calderon in time for tonights game.
