Sports fans are more pissed off with the local government. People I know watch Durant, sigh heavily, and then spit on city property.
There is a small crowd that hates OKC for "stealing" the Sonics, but I think most people who still care blame Schultz and local government. We had a terrible team that only true basketball fans (myself) bothered to pay attention to. If we do get a new team, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the Kings. OKC got Kevin Durant, I want to watch Boogie.
I don't feel bad for Charlotte at all. If they kept letting MJ choose his flavour of the month prospect and they kept bombing out of the league, I'd feel bad. But they adjusted. They got Cho in. He's going to build through the draft. That means losing. For fans, they get to see these prospects grow before their very eyes. I don't mind watching my team lose if they make progress. It was the same with the pistons this year. What you lose is the casual fan who will go watch Dancing with the stars instead of hoops. They don't care. They just want to be part of the atmosphere of winning and that sense of pride that comes with it. If they draft smart and get lucky, we may be looking at them and wondering why we didn't just do that. For the players, it sucks to lose but hey it sucks for me to come to work and had to deal with the numnutz here. I hate it sometimes. But those guys have a place in the league because of the bobcats. DJ could be an unhappy backup. Other guys could be players who rarely get off the bench. As it is, they get to show what they can do. And of course, if they were any good, the team wouldn't be losing. For $1 million a year, I think they can endure the losing season.
