What he's talking about is guards with no predirection to run either position. Not good enough to command an offense and not good enough to play the 2. I.E. not winners.

That's funny. It brought a moment way-back from my younger years. I had a brilliant mathematic teacher who never trusted my excursions into the tacit side of mathematics. That doubtful side, on how the mind manipulates the easiness of logical conclusions for the Tinker-bell effect that Alice described:

Alice was beginning to get very tired of sitting by her sister on the bank and of having nothing to do: once or twice she had peeped into the book her sister was reading, but it had no pictures or conversations in it, "and what is the use of a book," thought Alice, "without pictures or conversations?'

In short, at the few moments I wanted to be nasty, I would end his question to me, with that nasty conclusion: "I guess".
    It drove him nuts.

Where you could argue that both Isiah and Dumars were combo guards...

One a point guard who could score
and one a SG that could handle the rock and run the show at times....

All guards can help out at both guard spots when needed. I don't see Zeke or Joe D as combo guards.

Isiah Thomas was probably 95% point guard/5% shooting guard. The dude ran the show, set up the offense, led the team, etc. He averaged nearly double-digit assists for his career. That is a true point guard. Dumars averaged only 4 assists per game and scored about 20 points per game in his prime years. He could run the offense when needed, but that was not his forte. I would say he was more like 90% shooting guard/10% point guard.

Brandon Knight falls under the "combo guard" label at this stage of his career. A combo guard isn't 75% or more at one position.

I second this opinion, for some reason, I'm not feeling Bennett. He just looks lethargic when I watched a video of him "displaying his skills", I'll admit he looked better in the in-game highlights, but he just seem so lackadaisical when I watched his Draft Video.

If the Pistons pick him, I hope he's the kind of "low motor" guy that Andre Drummond is.

True, but damn, AD is an athletic freak, I'm not getting that vibe from Bennett, are you? It's not to say he's not a good player or pick, it's just a feeling that I have. Hey, I was one of Darko's biggest fanboys, so what do I know.

    I'll be honest.
I don't really follow college hoops aside from some channel flipping during the season and watching the NCAA tourney.
I'll give Joe the benefit of the doubt (like I did w/ the Darko pick) and hope it all works out.
I just hope Joe has the sense to simply select the best asset left on the draft board when the Pistons pick and not try to fill a specific positional need.

The Pistons need good ballers at all positions.

As I remember it, JD couldn't do anything special with HIS team after Zeke left. Maybe he kept the team around .500. And ushered in the Teal Years.

Joe was way to old to carry those teams on his back.
Not to mention, aside from Joe and Grant; those teams really sucked!

Both Maxiel and Bennett are 6-7. The difference is that Maxiel really has no natural position to play in the NBA.

Bennett has the athleticism, quickness, and shooting ability to play SF at the NBA level. The guy made 42 dunks and 23 3-pointers last season as a freshman for UNLV. The kid is only 20 years old. I don't think he slides down to #8. If so, you have to take him.
