As the Monroe uncertainty continues, I thought it would be fun to project the starters, rotations, and minutes with and without Monroe for the upcoming season.

    Current Roster:

PG-Brandon Jennings, DJ Augustin, Spencer Dinwiddie, Will Bynum
    SG-Jodie Meeks, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope
SF-Kyle Singler, Caron Butler, Cartier Martin
PF-Josh Smith, Jonas Jerebko, Gigi Datome, Tony Mitchell
C-Andre Drummond, Greg Monroe, Aaron Gray

At five positions, with 48 minutes a game, that is 240 minutes to divide up on the team.

The largest change that could come from the rest of free agency would be Monroe leaving for another team (either not countering the offer or a sign and trade).

However, if there is a sign and trade, we would have to rethink the rotations anyways.

Let's project two possible lineup configurations:

    With Monroe:

PG - Jennings (24 minutes), Augustin (16 minutes), Dinwiddie (8 minutes), Bynum (DNP)
    SG-Meeks (26 minutes), KCP (22 minutes)
SF- Singler (22 minutes), Butler (20 minutes), Martin (6 minutes)
PF-Smith (30 minutes), Monroe (15 minutes), Jerebko (3 minutes), Datome (DNP), Mitchell (DNP)
C- Drummond (30 minutes), Monroe (15 minutes), Gray (3 minutes)

    Without Monroe:

PG - Jennings (24 minutes), Augustin (16 minutes), Dinwiddie (8 minutes), Bynum (DNP)
    SG-Meeks (26 minutes), KCP (22 minutes)
SF- Singler (22 minutes), Butler (20 minutes), Martin (6 minutes)
PF-Smith (35 minutes), Jerebko (10 minutes), Datome (3 minutes), Mitchell (DNP)
    C- Drummond (36 minutes), Gray (12 minutes)

Let me know if you think I am off anywhere, think Van Gundy would do something different, or think the lineup would be better arranged in another way!

Classic National media article about a local team that the author has no real information, has done absolutely no research, and has spent zero time working on.

This is more a commentary on the lack of good reporting in today's internet age than an endorsement on the Pistons Free Agency .

This is the best place I could think to ask this question: Is the Pistons roster too young to win?

I'll clarify this a bit. These guys come out of college and if they are half decent, they go looking for a big paycheck (see Dinwiddie's comment during Summer League that the "cash will come"). We have some good young talent and a roster moving at least in the right direction. We need to start winning games to get the free agents to even look in our direction. If Monroe could accept to play his role off the bench and still get 30mins, the same as the other two guys, we would be winning a lot more, all while keeping these guys fresh. Look at how well it worked for the Spurs.

And that is the distinction I am trying to draw. We are never likely to have a roster full of stars and instead need to bat deep. Monroe helps that no-end. But instead, he is more concerned with getting the extra $2mil a year and his playing time than WINNING. Spurs do have stars, but what they have more than that is no ego. They know they need everyone to win it all and that's the way they play.

So what do you guys think. Are the Pistons too young to win?

I think it takes an organization of winners to instill good values on young players.

SVG is planning to hire Quentin Richardson in a player development/mentoring role.

    Winning breeds winners.

My view with the Pistons is that there is not going to be some big leap. You have to walk before you run. Drummond, for all his awesomeness, is still at least a year away from being a true defensive anchor, and probably 2 from having an average post game.

I really hope that SVG turns us into a defensive stalwart again.

If Datome can play SF, he could at least compete for some minutes in training camp. At SG, I think Meeks and KCP will divide up all those minutes.

If Pizza Guy can't get minutes at SF on this team he should be planning his move back to Europe,

Pizza guy is depth fodder. He should expect no more than 8-10mpg.

I'd be happy with that...after what seemed like 5 minutes per last season.

I am ok with that. The pressure is on him to show "something" in those short minutes.
