No Shock Here: WNBA Leaving Motown? - ClickonDetroit.com- msnbc.com
The only professional team in the Detroit area (Michigan for that matter) to win three titles in this decade and nobody cared even go to see them....5000 fans a game?? I know the LA Sparks averaged 10,300 fans a game this past season..although I never went to a single one in their 13 years of existence Who am I going to cheer for next summer when Plennette, Tweety and Shavante are leading the Tulsa Teasers to the WNBA title???
I'll blame the mothers and fathers for this one. These are good role models. Young girls shoulda been taken in droves to see these ladies play. There were enough fans to make this team a viable commodity. Men who like the game played above the rim, and who cannot accept the level of play experienced at the WNBA level, you shoulda tried them also. The only people not to blame here would be unemployed Canadians.
I think Palace Entertainment has to take some responsiblity for the lack of attendence as well as the team. The Shock started off the season pretty rough losing a lot of games early. When the Shock did get it together you didn't see the advertisment for the team or the ticket packages like you see for the Pistons. I normally follow the Shock, but this season was different. I didn't even know they were in the playoffs until they were eliminated. Part of the reason was that the Detroit Tigers were in a penant race so my attention was on baseball. I don't think one bad year is a reason to move the team. I think this is all speculation. Other teams in the WNBA are in worst financial shape.
Davidson thought of selling the team three years ago due to losing money. The commissioner asked him to hang on...so he did. Now Davidson is gone and this decision may have been made by his wife.
That was my thought. I'm biting my tongue to not put a hex on her if this goes through.
Yeah, don't blame Canada!
It's up to this forum to lead the petition to "Save the Shock" Who's gonna meet me at the palace at midnite tonight to protest this...or maybe we should boycott the Pistons first three games at the Palace to show Mrs. D that we (well some of us) love this team!!!
I don't even watch Shock games when they are on TV....
So it's you and your followers who are responsible for this
As I said a few weeks ago, the Pistons are next to be sold (although they may stay in Detroit). I'm just sayin...
I'm willing to move to Tulsa if you think that would help.
There is that certain degree of uncertainty with a new owner. I tried posting about this last season and only thing we discussed were other famous females names Karen. I have to believe that Stern would not approve a sale that moved the Pistons. Of course it would be hard for them to break the Pistons out of Palace sports and entertainment. Plus the backlash and boycotts of the Palace events that would be sure to follow.
You must be thinking about some other forum. This is a highly serious group of individuals. I can't imagine that type of discussion developing on here.
I think I'm going to be sick................Gimme a bottle of something and sing me the blues This jus' ain't right.....awwww my Sweet P!!!!!!
So let me get this straight... there's no market for women's hoops in Detroit, but there is one in... Tulsa, Oklahama?
No, it just means that apparently there's a buyer there.
Sometimes, it is the smaller community that really embraces a particular team (college athletics, minor league baseball, etc.).
Exactly. Case in point: Boise, Idaho!
Separate names with a comma.
