In terms of wings (2's and 3's), Rudy Gay is probably going to be the best - realistic - option for us on the 2014 FA Market, if he reaches it. He's got a player option for the 2014/2015 season (worth over $19M) that I'd be surprised to see him pass on. Now, I bet the Raptors would rather spend that $$ on FA's who are going to be with the team long-term.

    C. Villanueva and R. Stuckey straight-up for R. Gay works cap-wise. Throw in a future 1st rd. pick and/or a young player to sweeten the deal, and we might be able to get it through..

    C: G. Monroe, A. Drummond
    PF: J. Smith, J. Jerebko, T. Mitchell
    SF: R. Gay, L. Datome
    SG: K. C-Pope, K. Singler
    PG: B. Jennings, C. Billups, W. Bynum

    That's a squad.

    Thoughts?

I think Drummond will be a starter and a future All-Star. I don't see him ever coming off the bench again.

There's 96 minutes of playing time available at the 5 and 4 positions in a regulation game. 32 minutes each for Drummond, Monroe and Smith (and perhaps more for all three, with Smith getting minutes at the 3) is more than enough for anyone not named LeBron or Durant in the NBA.

That would be a formidable lineup. The only question mark would be at SG.

I'd rather have Danny Granger (assuming he's back 100% from injury) than Rudy Gay (assuming he's back 100% from eye surgery).

Sorry, just can't do, it as it interferes with a plan to bring Carmelo here... :jail:

We need those expirings to lock up Greg Monroe next year.

Rudy gay isn't worth not having the flexibility to offer Moose a David West type contract.

Just gotta hope for the best with our 1st rd. pick KCP. Singler and Billups help, too.

Options 1a and 1b for me - - - > once we get to FA. The Pacers have a legit shot to win it all though, and would be more opposed to trading a valuable, immediate asset for expiring contracts.

There's going to be about $21M available in cap-space this off-season.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but can't we go well over the cap to resign our own players?

    Thats a short rotation.

Thats true. But is this a team you want to go over cap for?

None of those guys are ever going to play 36 minutes/game. There'll be minutes to be had for Datome, Jerebko, Mitchell, Bynum too. I was just making the point that a lack of available minutes wouldn't be a problem.

And yes, I would. I think it's the second best team in the East, with a chance to knock off the Heat on a good week (/bad week for them).

Don't expect too much, either. He could be a star, a solid contributor, or Walter Hermann part II. If anyone had ever heard of him before we signed him, perhaps I'd have penciled some minutes in for him.

If the Raptors suck around the trade deadline.......Rudy will be a Piston. No way they pay him $19M next season.....NO WAY! And yes....the Jennings trade messes up the plan for Lala Melo! :frusty:

At least if we get Rudy we can stop harping on about Drummond starting.

And it should hopefully close out the Melo rumours

Tony Mitchell (6-6) is a darn good player. He is a better rebounder than Melo and a more efficient scorer than Gay.
