I'm trying to find out what game the line

"An almost unthinkable storyline as unfolded in this NBA Finals".

    is from.

ABC has used it in their NBA Finals montage every year since 2006.

It's also in a documentary about the 2004 Pistons season. At first, I thought the clip was sampled.

But now I'm thinking it could have come from George Blaha, who shifts to radio for National TV games.

    So, my questions are:

    1) Does anyone remember hearing that line during the LOCAL Detroit Pistons radio broadcast of the 2004 NBA Finals? Not the ESPN Radio broadcast.

    2) Does anyone have a podcast of that game? I'd like to get it and hear it for myself.

I emailed WDFN, who had broadcasted the Pistons games during 2003-2004. I asked if they had a podcast of the game.

This was the response from WDFN:

    ++++++++++++++

No – I’m sorry, we do not have access to the audio from that time.

I don't remember listening to radio back then. I took in the games exclusively on TV.

    Thanks for your response.

Hopefully someone can chime in, that listened to game 5 on the radio, or who would have a podcast of that game.

Nice avatar of Steve Blake, lol.

One of my memorable Blake stats was during 2010-2011, Blake went 37-113 on 2-point FGs, 32.7%. (37.3% on 3's.)

It's no coincidence to why he often is referred to as The Beast.

It's just always intrigued me, as to what series it could be from, as soon as I heard it on the ABC Finals montage back in 2006.

I (and others on message boards) started to think about what "unthinkable storylines" have occurred in the NBA Finals, and where it could have originated from.

Since now, it seems like it came from the 2004 series, and either Blaha or Brent Musburger made the call, it would also be interesting to know for sure the source of the call, and put it into context.

Marv Albert may have the "A Spectacular Move" call. But this one should rank up there with that, by whichever play-by-play broadcaster said it. It seems that important. Also in the mix of important calls would be Gar Heard's shot to send it into 3OT in the Boston-Phoenix game 5 in 1976.

Maybe this Pistons call wasn't about a moment itself, but about a series, but still.

And it was a memorable Finals, with the Pistons defense, and bench players like Okur and Williamson also stepping up. I also felt bad for Michael Curry, since he had been with the team for a while, but was traded before the season to make room for Elden Campbell. But I was happy that as soon as Larry Brown's trophy recognition speech started, he thanked both Carlisle and Curry for getting the Pistons to where they were before Brown came in. That was classy.

Also, it would be cool if a podcast of the call was ever found, to preserve it. Hopefully the full game would be found, but if only the podcast, but with the exact game and broadcaster info detailed within the podcast file, then that would ensure that the call was preserved, and with proper recognition as to who said it. And it would have its proper place in NBA Finals history.

I remember being very confident in the team that season and just feeling like they were going to teach the national audience a lesson. I think that for anyone who watched the team all season, it was obvious that they were historically great on defense. Larry Brown also gave me confidence... He was perfect for that group.

We ran the Lakers out of the Gym that series.
At LEAST Rick Fox was honest in his assessment.
I'd like to read Kobe's book one day...just to hear what he'd say about that series.

I remember I was in college at a party (in Texas). It was sometime late reg. season and Pistons were the hottest team over a short period of time. I said something insane, like, "Michigan could win 3 titles this year: Redwings, Pistons, and ___ (I forget 3rd team)."

This girl i didn't know, but my friend was dating very very briefly, let out the loudest, most obnoxious guffaw, "Ha! The Pistons?!?!" And, she continued to berate me about it, while leaving the other two teams I mentioned alone.

When they won, I couldn't help but hope that she was somewhere watching the game, thinking, "Hmm, I was really a b**** to that guy at that party." hehehe.

I know for certain that Al Michaels and Doc Rivers did the TV broadcast on ABC TV....

There was a guy on NBA TV who gave a prediction at the time: "Lakers in 4, because the Pistons can't score." It wasn't Avery Johnson but a plumper dark skin guy with a similar name.

This article written before the finals said about the same thing....

    Pistons revise Finals forecast

All of the articles written from game four and afterwards was in disbelief that this situation was progress....especially in Los Angeles. Chick Hearn was turning in his grave..

And yet today "everyone" knew the Lakers were on the verge of collapse and the Pistons were going to win. Because injuries...and drama...or something.

Straight up revisionist history bandwagon-ass-cattery going on up in here!

Blaha has a long history and is beloved by both Spartan and Piston fans.
