I missed the 1st qtr. This might sound like a dumb question, but how are the Lions down 20-0?

Hanson's replacement boots a 51 yard field goal before the half. Score is 20-3.
Stafford has a very low passer rating for time served.
    Running game not untracked either.
Cleveland had an 86 yard punt return for a TD.
Lion fans dreaming of Wayne Fontes.

    Offence
    Stafford overthrowing receivers
    Receivers not getting open
    Running game not running
O-Line can't move the line, getting stood up/pushed backwards

    Special Teams
    can't tackle
Giving HUUUUUGE holes to run through

    Defense
    LBs have looked good
Very little/no pressure on the QB (unless they blitz)
Secondary can't cover in man, have huge holes in zone

The only guys I remember are Dick LeBeau & Lem Barney.

I know they have had a decent secondary player or two over the years. The guys you mentioned surely fit that category. You could even throw Dre Bly in that mix. I was wondering how long it has been since the entire secondary was solid.

It was before my time, but this guy named Yale Lary must have been decent. He went to 9 Pro Bowls from '52 through '64 and is in the Hall of Fame. Besides being an outstanding DB, he returned kicks and punts. Oh yea, and he led the league in punting three seasons, too.

1970 Detroit Lions with Lem Barney and Dick LeBeau at the corners. Mike Weger and Tommy Vaughn at the safeties. Awesome defense that ranked #2 in the NFL that season. These four guys had 23 intwerceptions.

Put that together with a defensive line of Larry HAND, Joe ROBB, Jerry RUSH, (cool names for defensive linemen) and Alex Karras...who was just named to the all NFL team of the 60s.
This is the team that shoulda won the super bowl.

Start Drew Stanton to see if he can move the offense. Then put Stafford in afterwards to learn on the run.

Use Culpepper as a back or a linebacker:MusicBigGrin:

You can add dropped passes and fumbles to the list for the 2nd half.

    3-13 here we come!

Stanton looks like he can move the ball but he's only been playing against guys toward the top the cut list. Schwartz has to start $tafford (to attempt to make his contract make sense) but he should sit Daunte* for the rest of the preseason and let Stanton play against better guys starting in the 2nd qtr. Let him run the offense through the 3rd qtr and then put $tafford back in for the 4th to help build his confidence.

*Culpepper's a known quantity. He's not gonna get any better with playing time and he won't get worse unless he gets injured. Sit his butt and let the kids play.

No truer words have been spoken on this forum.

Weird. I had doubts about how I spelled the word truer and dictionary.com does not recognize it. Maybe I should have said "More true words have never been spoken". ????

Nice come from behind W today by the Lions and a great "let's win this game" call by Schwartz with the on the 2 pt conversion with a little over 3 mins left in the game. Lions win 18-17 over the Colts.

Stafford look good out there today, but it was Stanton who led lions on the winning drive after the turnover in the 4th.

Loved the two point call. All qb's looked great. Wow. I can't believe I am smiling about the Lions. I'm probably going to wake up any minute now.

Schaub goes down with an injury and it looks like Dan Orlovsky is the new starting QB for the Houston Texans.
