    Bump for a great article!

Let's hope Joe's instincts are right. I would love to see Shaq miss another title.

ggazoo, hope you don't mind but I renamed your thread. That's an article worthy of comment.

I wonder if Amir Johnson has it in him to be a 4/3 or 'tweener. I'm looking at his weight and height and I'm thinking (hoping) Antwon Jamison. I could be wrong (considering I've never seen the guy play - I most likely am) but knowing Joe, he drafts for mismatches and looking at all three we have a 1/2 in AA, and 4/5 (I know that's a strech) in JM and maybe a 4/3 in Johnson. Maybe. Anyway, this site is great and I really tip my hat to you and yours.

Great article. Very encouraging and well thought out. The only thing I disagreed with is that Toronto held on to Rose and New York held on to Houston primarily because they feared what the Pistons would do. It seems to me that both of those teams know that by the time they get ready to challenge the Pistons, Rose & Houston will be retired. I don't think they would pay "X" millions of dollars to avoid a couple of losses they are going to probably get anyhow. I can almost hear Van Gundy whining after a playoff exit courtesy of the Pistons "But we had the team with the biggest stars..."

Really though, I still think Detroit, Miami and Indiana are gonna have a great battle. I can't remember being so excited for a Piston season to begin.

It's the bitter taste from the Finals loss. Believe me.

The Pistons players, organization and NATION (<-- that's us) are in denial that we lost. We are mad, we won't take prisoners, and we would love for the 2006 Finals to start tomorrow. Payback and retribution. A great theme for next year.

Yeah, it was awfully hard to see the Pistons lose, especially since they were so darned close to retaining their title. But I was so proud of their accomplishments and how they fought back every time they were down that I really don't feel bitter. A little sad, yeah, but if I had to pick a team to beat Detroit it would be San Antonio because like Detroit, San Antonio was truly a TEAM. I almost hated watching that series because I couldn't find anyone to hate, lol. Well..wait, I'm still wondering about Horry grabbing his crotch...IF that was directed toward the Pistons and their fans then I can add him to my list with Van Gundy, Sprewell, Koby, and a few others.

I think in the end Detroit lost because of 3 things and if any one of them had been different the outcome of the series would have changed: (1) Rasheeds goof, (2) Billups touchdown pass with a 9 point lead that I thought changed the momentum (good thing the family wasn't home when that happened...I jumped off the couch and started cussing...I knew it was gonna be huge), and (3) Miami wore us down and it took playing 2 games to just get into it emotionally. Heck, even as a fan I wasn't ready for more action until the third game.

I think the reason I'm really so excited for the season to start is because of all the battles for the roster spots we are going to see, anticipation of seeing the rookies play more, and watching the big battle for the East.

nice article. For Pistons Fans, it's sometimes difficult to stand Dumars' patience considering big moves while the others pull of major trades and change their lineups. But we know that we have to trust in him. Or at least, that we can. I'm very curious to see Acker, Maxiell and, especially, Johnson, play and produce. The Team now has grown together more than ever, they're playing with each other for a long time.
Hope that Arroyo finds a way to fit, because he really can be an X- factor, running the offense very different from Billups and worrying the opponent when he finally adjusted to our offense.

Yeah, I'm sure the Pistons won't receive the high grades like Indiana & The Heat this off season... but we all know Joe ain't done yet... his best work typically comes right before the trade deadline.

Some might be concerned about giving up a 1st rounder for Arroyo but this draft is going to be extremely watered down... he's still very young and should be able to contribute more than a #25 pick.

We'll have a lot of young guys to bring into the mix in the next couple years anyways.

I think the wait and see what you've got is the right approach right now.

I agree with you when it comes to the Raps, but I think that's exactly why the Knicks kept Houston.

There's just too much pride there to give the other team an edge.

    Article....

    Great article, yes.

Indiana, for their coaching and defense and Detroit, for their teamwork, camaraderie and defense, are arguably the two best teams in the East. Miami has all the Flash and lights but I'm saying we're gonna be right there at the top again.

Jammertime, I am with you on Houston and NY. LB is hoping that he turns our like Mcdyess. Zeke prolly had nothing to do with that decision. He was ready to dump Allan like he did Dice.

Houston is tight with the owner in NY. His contract is insured. It's a no lose proposition keeping him.

As a Pistons fan, I think the team to worry about in the East is definitely Indy, not the Heat. I don't think you can just manufacture chemistry by replacing 2-3 players in your starting five. Plus, VanGundy will be on the hot seat all year long and will probably be fired by the all-star break. And finally, Shaq is a fat cat who's best years are behind him. I truly hope that Indy can play the Heat in the playoffs and we can play a weaker team so for once we don't have the toughest road like last year.....

legend, I don't know if I want to see Stan Van Jeremy fired. I love hating that guy. I remember hating this hockey coach on the Maple Leafs (John Brophy). I was glad when he got fired , but missed hating him not too long afterwards. Same with John McEnroe in tennis.

I don't know that I hate any coach, but Van Gundy moaned a lot last year in the playoffs. He is under the gun this year to make the Finals with a remade roster. I think Riley is past his prime as a coach and Shaq doesn't really feel like 3 hour practices at this stage in his career.

Yeah, the changes the Heat made may hurt them more than help them. We shall see. Also, they are still vulnerable against good teams if Shaq or Wade get hurt.

I can't stand Van Gundy because he incessantly whined over the Pistons whining and their lack of respect for his team. Afterwards, he whined that his own team should have won because they were the most professional team all season based on attaining the best record in the East. Well, guess what? That's why they have playoffs.

Not to make excuses, but I think teams were gunning harder for Detroit (the NBA champs) than they were for Miami (a team that did poorly the year before). I think that translated into a couple more wins for Miami.

He refused to give the Pistons credit. When he did, he always took a shot. He said stuff like "unlike others, he would give credit to the other team". So really, he was just insulting Brown & the Pistons not praising them. He also hurt his own cause by his lack of respect for Detroit. Personally, I'd rather say I lost to a great team than a mediocre team I should have defeated. But hey, what does a porn star look alike know about humility?

i like the article. just another way to say that we are here to stay!!! but i must admit, i'm sick of people talking about miami this, and miami that......who we should really pay attention to are the teams in our division like Indiana, Chicago, Cleveland, and even, Milwaukee!!! don't sleep on milwaukee cause i believe they will be a much better team this yr. so yeah, even though miami is in our conference, we got to win the division first......that's where it really is!!! our team is much deeper (on paper anyway) but they have to get the p.t. and produce with whatever time they get! that is going to be the tale of the tape for our beloved DP's!!

but again, pretty good article.....and I definitely like how the article ended....like to be continued......cause this is going to be a very interesting NBA season!!!! what y'all think??????

I am very excited for this season. A lot of reasons. I miss seeing the DPs play. I miss seeing Ben swat a shot from the weakside. I miss CB bombing a 3. I miss Rip coming off of a curl and hitting a midrange J.

I want to see what Darko 2006 edition will be like. I'm curious to see how Arroyo is used. I want to know if Delfino is going to be useful and if not, whether he implodes. What sort of shape does Sheed show up to camp in?

Did Tay put on some muscle? Do they have the smoldering passion to bring the title back to Detroit?

Can J-Max hold his own with K-Mart?

This is going to be a GREAT season. I just feel it.

I don't think most people are taking the division for granted. I've seen many people say that Indiana will be a bigger obstacle than Miami and that Miami won't even be a problem because they would self destruct. Cleveland could cause some problems too, but do you think either Milwaukee or Cleveland will actually win the division over both Detroit and Indiana? I don't think anyone said they wouldn't be any good, although admittedly, I haven't read every post and every article. I think it would be interesting if you made a good case for either of those teams winning the division.

    yo darth,

i feel what you saying!!! but by NO MEANS do i think Clev or Milw will win the division, but if you take in concideration that split the season series w/ both teams....you talking a matter of 4 games, which would have meant alot last yr. but i digress..... i was just saying that i think we (or most people) are to concentrated on what miami is going to do next yr, and forgetting all about indy, chic, and the rest of the division. i just think our div. is much more tougher this upcoming yr. and that we should focus on the division, more so than the conference, cause if we win the div. i believe we will win the conference. think about it darth, guaran-sheed that if them boys would have played the regular season as hard as they played the playoffs, we would be talking b-2-b champs!!! i believe w/o a shadow of doubt that they will definitely take this upcoming season WAY more serious this yr. because game 7 in the finals on our own home floor has been a revelation to them!! i'm positive that they don't want to feel that anymore. what else you got darth or anyone else....i like picking everyones DP brains!!!!
