If the Pistons were downtown when I was at Wayne State, I never would have finished college and I would still be living in Detroit. No judgement, just facts.

Careful. This is almost how Wiggles went amiss (but on the SALE of the team). He took it rather hard.:gettinghanged:

The guy who won a pair of lifetime tickets (by coming up with the building's name) for every event must be a bit bummed.

This makes me sad actually. I've always said my first trip I'm going to make when I retire is to the Palace . Doesn't seem like its going to happen now.....

Try the new place when it opens...
It will be located in Ilitch Park.
Or you could visit this palace.....

I used to have a solid work hook-up for free tickets when I was fresh outta college.
I have some great memories of the Palace.
...Saw the demise of of the Bad Boys. ...Saw Joe Dumars (my favorite player) finish out his career. ...Saw some amazing Grant Hill games during the teal era. ...Shared my popcorn with Olden Polynice. ...Took a wrong turn down a back stairway and ended up in Brendan Malone's office (...got kicked out of Brendan Malone's office.). ...High-fived a pumped up Zeke after a big win. ...Laimb, T-Mills, JYD, Mark Macon, Al Houston, Lindsey...

That being said - I'm STOKED that the team is moving back downtown!

Would it be feasible to get the Pistons d-league squad to the Palace?

They are leaving behind the most successful and distinctive period of the franchise, but it does seem like if they ever want to draw crowds again then they got to go.

Did they draw 8,000 people last night?

Gores has made an absolute fortune with this team!

The Drive does well in Grand Rapids.

To be clear my first paragraph deals with the D-League and the other 2 are about the Pistons.

I wasn't suggesting that the Drive move because they can't draw 8,000 fans.

This is pretty amazing in multiple ways.
    1. The Palace is still a VERY nice arena with all the bells and whistles of any other modern arena. By most accounts, it's one of the nicer arenas in the NBA despite of its age. In addition, Tommy Gores just sunk a bunch of money into the thing updating the locker rooms, scoreboard, etc. It seems absolutely CRAZY that they'd just take a wrecking ball to the thing.
    2. Gores owns the Palace. The Pistons pay no rent. It's THEIR house. The money being discussed between the Olympia group and PS&E must be freaking CRAZY large for the Pistons to pick-up and move out of their own building so they can rent a room in Ilitch's crib. ...wow!
    3. This is HUGE for the city of Detroit! The thought of going downtown, watching the Pistons, seeing a show at St. Andrews and then grabbing some late-night Lafayette Coney is pretty awesome.

Happy for the city of Detroit.
In Adelaide, the two AFL teams used to play outside the city and one of the teams (*cough* not my Crows) used to struggle with numbers. Once moving to the city, pretty much each seat of the 55,000 seat stadium is sold out each game.
In addition, the change in the city has been huge with more cool eating spots, bars, etc (although partly to do with a relaxing of liquor laws in the state too). The city just has a different vibe to it.

From a team standpoint, I hope it helps fill out the games. We are one of the worst 5 in the league in attendance and playing in a full stadium has got to help these head dropping young'uns.

Radelaide. I need to get down and visit during summer.

Big sports arenas do bring a different vibe.

As much as I loved the Palace and the many memories I had in it during the Bad Boys and GTW eras, I absolutely HATED driving to it from the West side of Detroit.

I live in Atlanta now, but will definitely be attending Pistons games in the new Dough Joe when I come home to visit family!

    RIP to the Palace.
