I think Phil Jackson is above rivalry. He's very unlike Pat Riley. Even though the Pistons/Bulls and Pistons/Lakers had many battles, I feel no ill will toward him at all and I doubt many Detroit fans do. Feel the same way about a guy like Magic Johnson. The "Zen" master designation says it all. He doesn't get in the weeds. He motivates the players in ways that are different than most coaches.
I think this is exactly what's going on! I don't think that Joe's job is on jeopardy, I think that Tom said to Joe, "Look, I like you and you've done a solid job considering the circumstances and I'll take half the blame on hiring Opie.....but DUDE....Table Cloth and Kuester? Seriously? Let's get some REAL help on this one"
How about, Joe has basically zero credibility with coaches, and they have to bring in Phil if they want to have a snowballs chance in hell of landing anyone decent.
I am not naive enough to believe Joe's job is not in Jeopardy. Once Phil Jackson's name is in the mix he is already on notice. There is not enough room for Joe and Phil Jackson to coexist. Jackson doesn't even have to be there to run the show. Hell, if he can demonstrate to Gores that he can run the franchise and team remotely with a cell phone while he meditates in Wyoming better than Joe while he is sitting in the stands drinking Diet Coke and stuffing his face with a tub of popcorn, guess who gets the boot? To me at this point JD is a lame duck president, er GM. I love JD and what he has done both as a player and GM, but we live in a world now of what have you done for me lately. Doesn't matter if he won us a championship 10 years ago. Best case scenario this lights a fire under JD and he GMs like he never has before and he gets to stay. Worst case-here's the door don't let it hit you on the way out.
I think Gores likes Joe and that is why he is still hanging on by a thread. If Phil can actually attract a decent coach to take the helm and he actually has ties to Phil, then there is a possibility that Phil can take the GM job and Gores can splits the job where as Joe retains his job as president of basketball operations... I mean if Joe can take the reshuffling without thinking he was demoted, then the two can coexist for awhile. Phil might be able to attract that elusive FA that the Pistons so desperately need to mesh with their newbies. Who says the GM's have to be at every game?? Phil can text Joe from Wyoming or from California when he is hanging out with Jeannie
I don't think Phil is going to work under Joe.
Phil doesn't have to worry about his resume at this point. He can write his own ticket.
I think we're making a whole lot of foregone conclusions about Phil's role in the organization when all he's done is agree to give Tom some advice about coaches. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Phil will be done and gone in 7 days. His assignment for Pistons basketball will be over. Just like kids Halloween.......what's left after 7 days. nothing but Boston baked Beans and a Mary Jane...........
Truth to power.
It's the making it public that makes it seems like there is a reason. Otherwise he'd give private advice.
This is just a move to excite fans and the PF........heck, the rings alone caused Roscoe to faint.
Absolutely. You ease all myths quietly by the front door and with a great deal of dignity.
When Jackson says, "Kiss the ring" people say, "Which one?"
Thanks to Mary Jane I ate a lot of Boston Baked Beans in college.
I don't have a problem with Gores asking a friend to give him some advise. It's weird to see "Detroit Pistons" and "Phil Jackson" in the same sentence, as everybody agrees, but i could get used to... who knows? Latest rumors said that Joe Dumars flew to San Antonio on wednesday to have a meeting with Mike Budenholzer, the assistant coach of Gregg Popovich. I... kind of... like that. 16 years in the Popovich's staff. Also another candidate is Darrell Walker, who is with the Knicks right now but spent some time with the pistons back in 2008-2011.
This coaching search is getting so much build up...it will be a letdown when we actually get a coach. Sent from public library computer.
