They bring in Terry Porter, and Flip's longtime assistants Sidney Lowe (gone to NC State as HC) and Don Zierden (rumoured to be the next coach of the Minnesota Lynx, see below) are moving on.

It will be interesting to see who replaces Don Zierden on the bench.

Is Joe making preparations for a Palace Coup, or is this just coincidence?

Is that Darko specialist coach still kicking around? I'm surprised he wasn't traded to Orlando as part of the package.

That is because we are brining Darko back next year. We are just using Orlando instead of the D-League b/c he didn't qualify for that anymore.

At the end of this article from detnews.com, it says that Flip says Igor Kokoskov is returning. I don't think it's surprising to see Flip's buddies leaving for other jobs. The only thing that makes me think a coup might be brewing is the hiring of someone of Terry Porter's stature. I've forgotten--does he appear to have any personal or professional ties to Flip?

Thanks Lurker. I thought I remembered seeing it somewhere before.

When they bring in Ronnie Rothstein as a "consultant," I'll believe it. :pound:

Not only Porter, Dumars also tried to bring in O'Brian as well.

    Really does make you wonder.

If Flip is not the guy then it would have been best to eat his contract and move on. Now the team has to spend next season wondering whats going to happen and Flip is in danger of lame duck status. Not exactly the best formula for racking up the wins.

    We will see.

We don't know how true the O'Brien rumor was, but the notion of Joe stocking the bench with viable HC candidates is a where-there's-smoke-there's-fire sorta thing, eh? Or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part.

Lame duck means you're in the last year of your contract, not the 2nd year of a 4-year contract. Saunders is the head coach. Porter is a valuable assistant coach, not a head-coach-in-waiting. That's all there is to it. I'll predict that Terry Porter will NEVER be the Pistons head coach.

Jeez you're defensive of Flipper. Do you have a bet with someone as to whether he'll be able to ride out his contract? We all know Piston head coach history. Do you really think Flip is gonna last? The writing is on the wall...and Flip signed it during the ECF series. I'm gonna stick my neck out and predict Flip won't be with the Pistons next September, but Terry Porter will be. Never say 'never'.

Maybe it's time to move on from what happened last year and look forward to the new team (& the coach)

Continuous hating does not promote winning.

Neither does denial. It's time to make sure mistakes don't happen again and move on. And time to recognize prior mistakes, like LB and Flip, and not scape goats, like Darko and Delfino, correct them, and never repeat them.

BTW, at the time, LB was the right hire, he did his job, won a 'ship, and then went insane. The Pistons then did their job by canning him. Unfortuately, they replaced him with a coach with all of of LB's insanity, and a fraction of his coaching ability. I can take crazy to a point if the guy can coach, but give me a bad coach, like Flip, who's also certifieable, and I just give up.

I agree, it`s time to move on to this upcoming season. However, last year will not be totally forgotten, especially if we see the same pattern of Flip`s coaching continue.

Let`s just wait and see, after all, we know what a great regular season coach Flip is, the playoffs is where he needs to succeed.

Will Flip be here for his full contract, I doubt it. When was the last time a coach stayed in Detroit for 4 years? Not only is there a possibilty that Porter may become head coach during or after next season, Joe D may have others in mind as we speak, and may have inquired about their services.

Some may say that would never happen, or if it did it would come out...etc.........maybe, maybe not............

Sigh, Darko & Delfino must have brought the trophy home.

I want the Pistons to do well. There are some people on this forum that want the Pistons to fail so Flip will get fired. To me, that's pretty sad.

Who on this forum wants the Pistons to fail? This isn't the rat-infested detnews forum. We'd all LOVE to see Flip succeed...but so far...he's not showing much promise. In Minny he let KG run the show. Here?...he let CB run the show with a cast of allstars.

Flip ain't earning his keep IMO
