It had to be. Like Pitino at UK. He controlled recruitment to fit his system. He was more deserving than Curry or Keuster even without that. I hate to use that past comparison logic for future moves but it isn't there is an clear cut, standout frontrunner.

Dumars has been a poor judge of coaching talent for the past 10 years.

Was it a comment on my theory being so far off or with the content within it of Duamars and Lamb being North and South?

    That's what I thought.

On how the Pistons treat players. They do sometimes have loyalty issues like how they threw Isiah to the side and 18 years later did the same to CB - with the same results of whatever hack they had pegged as their replacement not being able to cut it. Gee I wonder why replacing an All-Star PG with a mid round draft pick did not work.

Anyway most of the core from the 80's did retire from here. And Ben Wallace did come back to retire from here as well , so its not all bad.

Now on to finding a new couch.

I said something like this in some random thread a couple of years ago. Bill was the GM and coach of the shock and I thought that if Joe put Bill in the position and he was successful and provided some smart GM advise, the owners would ease Joe out and let Bill wear both hats as he did in the WNBA and as Greg Popovich does now with the Spurs. Joe was not going to lose his job to Laimbeer.

If you think about it, if the Pistons had hired Laims to coach the Pistons after the Flip regime, it could have changed the course of history. The Pistons could have still been relevant, Bill could have been one of the coaching-GM's on the rise and Joe would have been the AD at some college. Since that didn't occur, the Pistons are still in their rebuilding phase and only make headlines with their carousel of coaches, Bill is still coaching women and Joe is still being second guessed on his GM skills.

More then likely.... If Bill took over after Flip he would have walked out when the handcuffs were taken out by Davidson's wife. Can't see him staying around when the idea was to save money and not try to win (and what else can we say the ownership was doing at that point). So we would be a crap team now too... maybe we held on to being half decent another year but we still would be in serious rebuild now.

Saying that, I would have understood and respected Bill for walking... I'm not sure what it says about Joe that he stayed and kept his mouth shut after the sale was final. The man he respected was dead and buried... so no need to protect his feelings. It would do the fan base some good to understand what happened the last 5 years.

Who criticizes JD for not doing enough? He did too much. Hired too many bad coaches. Signed too many bad-fit FA's. Changed the identity of the team for the worse. Took a hands off approach as coaches with short term goals managed the team in a retooling/ rebuilding phase.

If Joe didn't repeatedly tell us that his hands were tied, I doubt any of us would have ever made that suggestion.

Or... maybe Bill takes over INSTEAD of Flip, the Pistons have the toughness they need to win multiple championships, Davidson has something to live for and would still be alive...

The problem there was that Bill's coaching legacy had not been established yet...the Shock won the WNBA title in the summer of 2003, but the team fell flat the next two years not even breaking over .500. Those two years happen be the same two years in 04 and 05 when LB's Pistons were humming. Bill didn't define his legacy until the Flip years......which is when the Shock went to the finals in 2006, 07, and 08 and won the title two of the three years. 2008 was the end of the Flip era and Bill could have slid in right after the Shock swept San Antonio, but unfortunately Mike Curry had some dicey pictures of Joe and was given the head coaching job early in the summer.:bs:
