Ozzie Guillen gets suspended for five games for saying something good about Castro? Come on...
Forbes estimates his wealth at 550 million dollars.
Ozzie or Fidel?
Fidel Castro is a very rich man.......He has 3 private yachts.......... Ozzie is rich in his usage of colorful metaphors.......... Two sides to this tricky debate. Cuban people are leaving their country in droves...looking for the freedoms that we're allowed to practice. Why be upset when Ozzie is simply practicing his right to speech.... However, Castro has become rich as a dehumanizing dictator forcing citizens to leave their beloved country.... They are allowed to protest the comments that Ozzie made...............
Anyone is welcome to protest anything he said. I'm just not sure why his employer gets to suspend him for making a simple statement that has nothing whatsoever to do with baseball. We're allowed to do that here. At least for a while longer.
If you are one of the faces of a billion dollar industry, you lose the right to speak your mind if your stupid and insensitive comments could cost thousands of customers and millions of dollars in revenue. The guy is lucky he wasn't fired.
your stadium is in little havena.... you don't praise the man that most of the residents have family members killed by, say it in 2008 in chicago (he did) and nobody will care.
You don't check your rights by accepting a job. What if he said I like the Dalai Lama and the mostly Catholic Cubans didn't like that. Or he liked a particular political candidate. You either have free speech or you don't. I'm guessing he could sue about the suspension and win, but probably just wants to let it all go.
It's not about free speech. It's about the manner in which you represent an organization. President Obama has free speech. What if he said that he loves Castro, Hitler, Bin Laden, etc.?
You're right Bill........but what do you think would happen to Obama if he said he liked Castro? besides losing the Cuban vote...........
Obama officially stating he's in love with Hitler could probably draw some media attention.
In regard to this country: you have the right to free speech. In regard to your employer: you DON'T have the right to be un-professional. ...Dude was unprofessional.
The government didn't punish him for what he said. So the issue is not really about political freedom of speech. There are a lot of things I can do to get myself fired that aren't against the law. If I stopped going to work and wrote my bosses insulting emails, I couldn't go to jail but I would probably lose my job.
Rascoe allows us to insult Piston players regularly, but I'm unaware of any suspensions because of it. I certainly wouldn't insult bacon though..........that would require severe punishment.
Darth got a 2-week suspension for sending me private messages of him and Jammer wearing women's clothing. Rascoe probably would have allowed it, but there dresses were Celtics and Lakers colors.
First of all I'm surprised Quillen didn't just fire back "F'you all" which he usually does. Second, he tried to say, ment to say, Castro's reign should've ended with his death along time ago. [Not buying it] ---Third, this country was founded through REVOLUTION. That's what Castro accomplished right under American nose. Castro made the country to his liking and threw out what he didn't like. His country ! Everything else get's to walk. Quillen is such a joke. he get's away with murder.
The country belonged to Castro? It was his personal possession?
I really need to start paying attention to these basketball threads from now on. I keep forgetting what kind of criminally insane people I am dealing with in here. Sometimes I feel like my trusting nature is being taken advantage of. It hurts fellas. It really does. As far as Castro, I was a State employee in Michigan and Idaho for a lot of years. I felt like I was lady Macbeth (don't go there again, Laimbeer) after shaking hands with the Governor. I couldn't seem to wash the slime off no matter how hard I tried. However, if I was asked on a public forum what I thought about him, I wouldn't have been stupid enough to say what I really thought. My boss may have agreed with me. But I would have been out looking for a job by the next pay period.
So you didn't like Jennifer Granholm..........
Sorry. I wasn't clear. I was referring to the good ole' boy, Idaho governor, Butch Otter.
