The Bad Boys was a great name due to the popular song (made more popular by America's Most Wanted) and the personality of the team and the way Detroit was perceived by outsiders.

It seems a little contrived to force a nickname on this current squad. No disrespect to the current Pistons, but they do not have the classic rivalries or character of the Bad Boys squad.

Some ideas I may submit include

    "Palace Guard"
    "D-Men"

    I think it is a built-in moniker.

I'll buy that until I get a more plausible history.

I think the best monikers are those that need explanation. The obvious ones sound stupid...JMO

hmmmm...I may have to change mine?

That's what I always thought it was. Just a short form slang for Pistons. Personally, I like it.

After watching Detroit tonight against Denver, unable to stop penetration, I think they should be called the "Drive Train"...

The league actually pinned the "Bad Boys" label on the Pistons to market that namesaked retrospective video for the 1987-88 season.

I read that they were gonna say a couple of the fan suggested nicknames in tonights game, but unless I missed it they didn't.

nope but they did it at the last home game. there were some lame suggestions...the kind you get when you play in sports leagues and teams have to make up their own names.

like i played in a league at j.dumars' fieldhouse last year, and you always get a team name of something like 'Young Gunz' lol

Using the last syllable of any team name my have been popularized by the Jim Rome Show. Red "Wings" or Cow "Boys". It should be the "Tons" but people here use Stones. It has to fit to some degree.

    I like "The Boltz".

It exemplifies the fast paced scoring nature of our new team while keeping real to our foundation, the nuts and "bolts" of the Pistons engine..defense.

    Woah...

Don't give that little weasel too much credit.

I think shortneing names has been around forever. It's just easier to say "Rob" or "Bob" instead of "Robert".

I say it may be a little too early to give this team a nickname. They're definately different than the last 2 years. Thowing out defensive minded names be wishful thinking.

    Nicks

Have to let these things just happen. Forcing it just does not seem to work.

Reminds me of when the suits sat down one time in the early 90's and pre-manufactured a macott. The Palace Guard - remember that? Ended up looking like a Sci-fi reject that ran around and scared the kids.
