Camby must have done something to get in the Woodson dog house.....or maybe Woodson has some sort of fantasy agenda and has no interest in winning games.
what kind of performances would everyone want for this upcoming loss to be respectable both player and coach ? is there one NYK we can shut down ? <5 pt = ok <6-9 = hang the coach > 10 = hang them all
Well the only good thing I can see that can come from this game is that it might show some sucker GM that BoT can still shoot (occasionally). He still has the UGLIEST shot - so flat.
Too many threes and very poor defense by the Pistons doomed them today. The Pistons at first seem to survive the Carmelo onslaught in the first quarter by trimming a 10 pt deficit down to 32-29, before the Knicks broke out on a 32-15 run to close the half. The Pistons seem to get rejuvenated at the half to trim the 20 pt halftime lead all the way down to 8 before the Knicks let lose Anthony again and Steve Novak's three point barrage to take it back up to 14 by the end of the 3rd. The Knicks lead the league in three pt shooting % and the Pistons seem to allow them to shoot uncontested threes from everywhere....(17-33). Even Sheed came off the bench to can three of them...in garbage time. We got some back in extended GT, from the missing man...Charlie Garbage who scored more points tonight, 17 that he scored all season..(3), on 7/15 shooting and 3/7 shooting from beyond the arc. Drummond was the high man in the game with 11 boards, but could not get off offensively missing a couple of bunnies under the hoop. He also had 3 blocks. Tay was atrocious from the field taking 11 shots and missing 8 of them. Knight was the lone bright spot on the Pistons roster today, weaving in for a couple nice layups and hitting three treys. Even though both teams hit about the same from the field (between 47-48%), the Knicks just seem to hit the shots when needed, especially the three and get to the line when they tried to go inside. Daye and English got in during the last two minutes just to keep them from getting too rusty....and oh yeah Stuckey sprained an ankle or knee......
The defensive strategy today was to let Novak take open corner 3s. It was a bold move but it didn't work out. Stuckey's a trainwreck. For real. He's one of my favorite Pistons but when the defense is a mess and your second option on offense is Kyle Singler you can be pretty sure your team is heading for the lottery. Prigioni and Sheed for Bynum and Daye.
Against the back drop of last year's results against the Knicks, I expected a loss, which was what we got. Knicks announcers pounded to the ground the fact that we're rebuilding (as if we needed reminding - I hope their team gets swept in the playoffs) but there were some (ok maybe one) positives despite the horrid result. Greg - he was fine offensively, shot 4 for 8. He was also the victim of several bad calls, and this seemed to affect him quite a bit. Hopefully he bounces back next game, which will be tough though, with LaMarcus Aldridge - and does Leonard start for Portland? Brandon - looks like the game winner against the Raptors helped his confidence. He did really well today, 21 points, 5 assists (2 TOs). The problem was the Knicks have so many weapons and all of them seemed to be hitting everything (poor perimeter D didn't help). Still, it was a good effort, even when coach saddled him with the dreaded Stuck/Corey+ lineup, except BoT played in place of JJ. Tay - Melo owned him. He also took a lot of questionable shots. Kyle - was solid. He was hitting his jumpers and was getting to the loose balls quicker than anyone else not named Andre Drummond; unfortunately the whistles were not kind to him (or the Pistons in general). Speaking of Andre, he looked fine (also grabbed 11 boards in 19 minutes) but was, like Kyle, plagued by foul trouble. Sheed also got the better of him, which is no surprise, but the potential is definitely there, Frank just needs to stop pairing him with BoTs and Traffic Cones. Max - he tried, but he was just overmatched (the whole team was outside of maybe the starting point and C spots today). That's a losing proposition. Bynum - was bad. The offense was stagnant as hell and he wasn't helping matters. Corey didn't have a good game overall, but he did get to the FT line. He also committed an atrocious foul on a 3 attempt. Stuck - was a non-factor; he had only 2 points and had 3 TOs versus 0 assists in his 13 minutes before getting hurt. JJ was stinking up the joint so he got replaced. Unfortunately for us, his replacement was BoT who, while he shot relatively well, is such a horrible defender and rebounder he gave it all back and then some on the other end of the floor. Kenny and Daye got 4 minutes on the floor. Coach Frank - I was confused by him. Because Brandon was hot, he rightly played him consecutive minutes, but seemed to wait too long to bring in more starters when the lead was not yet insurmountable with the time they had left. Why he's so averse to playing Andre and Greg together after having shown the pairing can work though is beyond me - and while Andre's foul situation may have factored in, there's proof that coach is reluctant to play them together for whatever reason.
