First, I don't see anything in the Blue Collar Blueprint link from Joe D about this. I checked the individual sections on that page and saw nothing on it (unless you're telling me I just have to buy the book).

Second, if you'll notice the next two articles are written from the perspective of the journalist. In Foster's article, you never see one quote from Dumars or anyone on the team about the "Jordan Rules." Not from the team itself. The writer uses the term and then uses the teams play as a definition of their own writing. They throw in analysis of game tape to dissect exactly how they trapped and/or helped on D, and a comment or two from players about their experience, but there isn't anything there that is different from other teams trapping pick and rolls and/or double teaming. The "Jordan Rules" moniker only comes from the journalists. Which tells me they tossed it out there, and all the journalists jumped all over it and looked for ways to link it to our defense.

That's why I tend to side with Mahorn and Abs. They did NORMAL things that teams do to stop a scorer. Nothing particular that could only be attributed to Jordan. Saying they trapped and doubled at different points of the game are like saying we now have Lebron rules, or Wade rules, or Mello rules. They are all normal concepts used within the course of the game.

I will endeavour to scan and post it tonight or tomorrow. I have a copy, as does BillLaimbeer and MotownPride.

Really, just one source, Drew Sharp, plus another guy that copied and pasted Drew's article to his blog. The Pistons certainly had a defensive scheme to slow down Jordan a little bit.

lol! That's a great retrospect by Foster. Can JoeD coax Daly out of retirement? The Joker probably still has a few tricks up his sleeve. :stirthepot:

About the Jordan Rules, it is on one of the dvd's of the 1989 championship series. The commentators asked a former Piston assistent coach (wired, sitting in the crowd) what those rules were about.
He answered something like doubleteaming MJ depending on his position on the floor.

Right, but that's exactly why there's a discussion about whether or not they existed. I have the DVD's too.

Really, does double teaming a guy based on where he catches the ball fall into a groundbreaking new strategy designed to stop an "unstoppable" player or does it sound more like something the EVERYBODY does at some point or another against their opponents?

It's a lot like the 2004 team D. It's not groundbreaking or revolutionary. It's just something that the Pistons had the personnel to execute successfully.

How about the "Parchman Farm Lockup"

Where is the connection between Mississippi and the Pistons?

Dyess was born in Quitman, MS
Lindsey was born in Utica, MS
Dupree was born in Biloxi, MS
