Deron Washington is putting up some good numbers, too.

    9 points, 4-4 FG (including 1-1 3ptr), 4 reb, block, steal in 15 minutes.

Offense is there and we knew it. The defense is another story, I guess. :)

    Pistons shoot 55.9% from the field (38 for 68) and 54.5% from 3-point land (6 for 11).

Piston bigs are poor free throw shooters. Guards are all pretty decent.

Lot of scoring for our guards indeed. But Bynum was minus 10 for the game. (about +23 for Gordon and +14 for Stuckey.) Scoring 23 points is kind of worthless when the other team is matching you too easily. We won the game in the 3rd quarter, with Stuckey in running the point, us scoring well, and the other team not scoring much (16 points for Milwaukee in the 3rd.) Gee, sounds kinda like the last game.

Only 17 assists. Would like to see us sharing the ball more, but that will come with time. I think the defense will too. I take nothing serious from two pre-season games, but it feels like the team will be a bit more balanced than we might have thought. Will be very interesting once CV comes back.

You mean that we may have a coach that can actually make adjustments? :cold:

Milwaukee shot 43.4% from the field so the D couldn't have been that horrendous. If we could hold teams to that number then we'll be in pretty good shape. Although 104 pts is a lot to give up in a game.

Gotta remember, these are replacement refs. So the calls will be gonzo, and the scores might not tell us a lot.

Nice to see Gordon can produce in under 30 minutes.

Glad to hear the calls are finally going Gonzo's way.

can't go by points given up as much as in the past, we have guys who can get out and run so were going to have more possessions during the game then the walk it up, pass it around, have prince hold it for 10 secs, pass it to somebody for a shot as the clock runs down.... the fg percentage and the points per 100 possession compared to other years will be a better tell of how the defense is doing.

Solid game for Kwame with 10 and 9 in only 23 minutes.

Will Bynum with 12 FT's in 24 min!

As far as pace, you are right that it needs to be looked at on something like a per 100 possessions basis or FG% allowed. But also, if your defense is good, it will slow down the pace of the other team because they will struggle to score early in the clock and will get frustrated.

well, it was tough to get too much out of this game because the refs were awful and didn't let them play. stuckey looked fantastic, his shot was falling and he was running the team well and making some plays. bynum again got his shot whenever he wanted but he did miss a few open looks to dish off because he was so concentrated on himself. gordon is simply a beast and will keep us in games by getting hot shooting. wilcox is going to need some work but he is serviceable. our bigs need to learn how to shoot free throws. maxiell is really rebounding the ball well.

what was really nice was to see the rookies making plays and competing hard. daye scrapped it up with delfino and got ejected, but not before a couple nice passes and another block that most guys couldn't get. washington really excited the crowd - he had a nice alley-oop, a sick weakside block, a 3-pointer, a 360-spin move to get the basket for a layup, took a couple charges (and attempted to take a few more). he is mostly raw athleticism right now and seems a little lost on offense, but he's a spark. so 2 games, 2 rookies ejected...let's see whose turn it is next. gotta love our guys competing and fighting back and not taking crap from anyone.

there weren't a lot of assists tonight but our guards basically owned their undersized guards, and it really does seem like the team has focused solely on defense. there's not a lot of fluidity to the offense but we still put up 113 and we're going to stay in games this year with guys like bynum and gordon. also, jennings is going to be a nice player in this league. he sold a few fouls that shouldn't have been called, but he's very quick and has very good court vision.

this is going to be a fun year!!

We may be underestimating this year's team because of last year's results... without fully factoring in the bad chemistry aspect of it.

    Last year:

    Stuckey- confused
    Rip- pissed off
    AI- beyond pissed off
    Sheed- bored

A team needs its guards to be the leaders.

True, but the replacement refs could be here for the entire season. I hate a game that's called with a ton of fouls, but we may just have to live with it.

That's very true and I thought that team could have been a 50 win team and was on pace for that mid-season before all the drama and bad coaching caught up to them.

This year I guess the main thing is can our front court exist without the main staples of Sheed and Dyess. Our front court has looked pretty good so far and CV is still in street clothes. Ben Wallace could bring all the experience we need if he stays healthy. And it's not like Maxiel and Kwame are inexperienced players.

Gotta love the coaching so far. Keuster is still feeling things out and getting to know the team. Being from the LB school is a big plus here. Usually his puples turn out to be pretty good coaches.

Warth - thanks for the summary. I am going to the game on Sunday but writeups have never been my shtick so we will see. Be nice if more games were televised, this is part of that exclusive deal they signed with Fox Sports. We will have full coverage for the reg season.

Maybe it was the players fault after all instead of just blaming the coach all the time. Looks like newness is back and all the attitudes are gone, [STRIKE]unless Ben Wallace.[/STRIKE]

Rookie coach. Bad feeling Rip is going to miss much of the season if Kuester does not get a clue and avoid playing Rip at small forward. Sure, Rip is a basketball player. But he is rail thin for a small forward and has no business playing that position. Last season, he was worthless down the stretch because of groin injuries from playing small forward, contending with bigger players. Rip is a year older, and thus that much more prone to have those groin injuries come back.

Somebody get a message to Kuester - he does not have to repeat last year's mistakes just because he was not here last year. He should be doing some research on his players as to what keeps them healthy and what does not.

I just watched the highlights of this game on NBA.com, and 4 out of the 5 Pistons highlights are really nice assists by Will Bynum. He can definitely make some nice passes when he wants to.

Oh man it's going to be a long time between now and Oct.23rd, the next time we can actually see a preseason game.
