First choice, Dumars himself. Stop making excuses for what goes wrong, take all the responsibility. If Curry, who could not even begin to diagram a play could be our coach, why not Dumars. Dumars won as a player, and has managed to put a championship team together as a GM. Signs of a very capable person.

Next choice, Laimbeer. Again, a winner as a player, and a winner as a coach for the Shock. Again, signs of someone with their act together. We know he can diagram plays too.

Next choice, Collins, a retread. Problems with Collins - thinks he knows more than he does, and therefore prone to get a stubborn streak on a point. I do not like quirks like that in a coach. However, if age perhaps has taught him some humbleness, he just might be a decent coach for us now.

Van Gundy's forget it. Especially Jeff. Just clueless people.

Lee, ignoring the facts that he is banned from coaching in the NBA, his Houston team's offense revolved solely around Cato setting high screen's for Stevie Franchise, and the enduring memory will be of him clutching onto Mourning's leg, what's not to love about JVG???

The clutching on Mourning's leg thing is my all time favorite picture. Gotta love that. His recklessness in that situation foreshadowed his reckless critique of NBA officiating.

You gotta admit. Be it a Knicks-Miami brawl, or going tow-to-tow with Mister Stern, or putting his slowest guy on Hardaway in an iso for the last play of a huge PO game, JVG puts its all on the line, quite literally. Refreshing after Flipper and Curry, no?

I'll say it again: What's not to love?

I like JVG because he won't softball his players or the media.

Unfortunately, the trait I like in him, is exactly why he will never coach in Detroit.

Re: Terry Foster: Joe should coach the team

Could be Joe knows about a coach that will become available... someone like Woody (not extended).

Laim does not fit two of Joe's criteria... a positive influence recruiting FAs (based on reputation)... and experience.
Still like to see Laimb come in as a lead assistant to cut his teeth (learning matchups and tendencies)

There are legitimate reasons to whine. And call foul.

I didn't see it that way, LK. I thought the guy was saying that the blame should be spread around. I thought that overall he did a good job with this and appeared to be objective.

I loved that :pound:. Probably the New Yorker in me is a little biased towards JVG, but i still think he would be very good for this team.

This is the first article/blog I see a person put some blame on Joe, but overall I agree with you.

I always thought that it was that Joe was looking for the next Avery Johnson.

Has anyone ever heard of a head coach "losing" his assistants en route to being fired?

Yea ! The joke is over.
Now when you discuss the Pistons, it won't need to include but what is Curry going to do ???!!!
He couldn't keep his word with anyone.
I'm glad Rip and AI didn't kiss his azzzz. At least they kept some dignity.

If this is about Cowen and other assistants that let Curry alienate the players, fine.
What a bunch of candy ----s.
