And thank you, Rasc. Even if we suck at the moment this team has some potential and the number of active members is highly correlated to how the Pistons are doing. Wiggles confirms the activity will take off as soon as the Pistons make their next playoff run. As a consultant by profession I'm obligated to add a hockey stick graph.
Thank you Rosco. It's good to know that the forum and us, as a community or just members who love this team, are in hands of a man who cares about the future of this.
Nice one Roscoe. It must be a little intimidating for new members to rock up here and see 20 or so guys with over 1,000 posts, talking a bunch of jargon and personal in-house jokes and be able to get involved. You almost need a PF glossary or intro manual. But if they can stick around and get a feel then they'll definitely be rewarded. As I'm sure you're well aware, there is a direct correlation between the Pistons on-court success and the activity/personnel levels on the forum. And it's kinda cool to see who has stuck around through the bad times. We want to be there during the lows as well as the highs, so we can experience the full spectrum of emotions. We have integrity and passion and that's what make us 'true blue' Pistons fans - and so we can distance ourselves from those casual Lakers fans and bandwagoners and people who follow a player rather than a team. I personally know exactly zero other Pistons fans in Australia - it's just not the cool thing to do. So it's cool to see Panda (and a couple of others from Oz pop up from time to time). Even fans who still support team's like the Celtics or Bulls are considered somewhat adventurous or loyal here. All these things are what this place is about for me, and it will make our return to success so much more satisfying.
You kept saying 'Participate' You sound like an awesome guy, so thank you too =) - PF has pretty much become my forum of choice after such a long hiatus from Basketball. PS - I'm happy to donate money to the cause if that is what is needed. Oh and yes please to the Palace trip. Its on my bucket list
And thank you Roscoe for all your effort, it is very much appreciated. I also am looking forward to a trip to the Palace, I told my husband the other night, that is one of the first things I want to do when we retire.......
I agree with everything that you said... except for getting parents involved. You guys really don't want to have to read posts from my mom about why I don't visit her more often.
How hard would it be to create a link of some sort whenever someone typed a word like irregardless, escapegoat, sandbagging or Dumards that showed the background or original usage of the word in a post? I'm guessing it would be tough to find the original posts, but it might help any new folks out. We also tend to combine subjects within posts because we're familiar with the various content in them instead of starting a new thread which may make it seem to lurkers/new members that we're not discussing something that has just happened. I don't think we had a thread when Monroe made the All Rookie, for instance, and prolly put it in the thread that was created when he was drafted. This is a fine line because it is obnoxious if everyone and their mother is opening threads, but a fan of Monroe's from Georgetown who might want to continue following him as a pro might not know where to go here to discuss him. (We the Pistons fans, the Napoleon Complexed shunned small market team are courting David Stern's casual fan!) I mut have always read this thread at work because this is the first time I saw the video. That was sweet, 'Scoe. Thank you.
Glad to hear you're enjoying life in BC, scoe. Just from the pic it looks like an awesome place to be
Well said my good friend...It's been a long time and we are still here enjoying the commentary, the community and the good old times and the struggles of our favorite sport team from all over the would as you stated. The Pf gives us chance to laugh, joke, pray and speculate about what the team did wrong and what needs to be done to improve it. Best of all it gave us a chance to cheer when we were on top and beat our chests!! Glad we can talk about other Michigan team during and during the off season, since those displaced M statesmen rarely can find people to discuss Pistons etal in their new neighborhoods. I recently joined the the forum of another team in my locality looking for what we had here and there is no contest compared to the knowledge and commentary I find here at the PF. In fact I only go there once a twice a week to comment during the time when the games are live, but here I check in everyday to see not only what is happening in Pistonland but to see what you guys are up to. Yep we like you too
Roscoe's put me in a position that most of the other team's forums were hard for me to hang around or got a good sense of feeling, instead, bias and senseless scolds were common there. He's spoiled me.
