I think if Joe and Gores had hired Phil Jackson, Larry Brown, and the ghost of Red Auerbach, the current Pistons team, with a little luck, may have been able to get swept in the second round of the playoffs next year.

I'm not real excited by Mo Cheeks, but I'm not really disappointed either. This team has some talent in the post with Drummond and Monroe, and it has some potential at the guard and small forward with Knight, Singler and Middleton. But our talent lacks experience, our bench lacks depth, and our vets lack leadership skills.

This team has a way to go, but while we wait, maybe Mo can teach Knight to feed the post, help Stuckey to keep his head up, and turn Bynum into a threat to steal the ball.

    They made a plop.

I can't say that I dislike Cheeks in any way... but it is just sort of a downer that we hired a known commodity. At least with a totally unqualified guy who is new, we could hold out hope that he was the next great thing until he gets fired next year.

Once again, the masses aren't really satisfied with the choice, but since we had no voice or say we have to roll with it and wait and provide his mid season grade in February and then hope to provide another one when we are up 3-1 in the opening round of playoffs vs the number 2 seed in late April .

For better or worse it is on to the roster now. If the team wants to show that this is merely a blip then they need to get some talent in there.

    :stooges: ...awesome!

I'm gonna set my absolute indifference aside and honestly root for this guy to be the answer.

    Good luck coach Mo!
We really need this guy to be good. I hope like heck he can establish an actual team identity and turn these guys into an exciting young team that's hell-bent on returning to NBA champ status.

I was sort of indifferent to the hire but I was looking at Cheek's record. There is virtually no difference from the previous years under Dunleavy and Obrien and Cheeks first year. Portland steadily declines. Philly jogs on a treadmill.

Damon stoudemire's stats stay roughly the same. Iverson ...the same. If he's the development guy...what did he develop?
I just pray that he understand development and can assemble a good staff.

Joe hired him to a multi-year deal. What for?

Also I wonder what expectations Gores put on him. If he expected Frank to take them to the playoffs this season, then if Cheeks doesn't make the playoffs next season, what then?

    I'm not. :crossed:

He's going to have to exceed expectations for me to get on board with this. With all the available QUALITY coaches. DET didn't even make the effort; irregardless of whether or not they take the job.

Although it still took a long time to make the decision, you almost think that it was made too soon, now that Hollins and Karl are available and Shaw was free to discuss his almost certain hire with some team.

Wonder who or what was the deciding factor that pushed Cheeks ahead of McMillan? Did Cheeks have something on Phil, that convinced Gores to go with him? Was Cheeks, the first choice of Dumars, Gores or Jackson?

Why wasn't Greg Kelser interviewed? After all Pat Riley went from the Laker color announcer to their head coach and won 4 rings at the Fabulous Forum

52% career shooting from a guard. Wow.

Knight and Bynum are going to drive him nuts.

This might be the turning point for Knight's career. If Cheeks can turn Knight into a respectable PG within the next two years before he gets fired, he would've served a purpose.

On a positive note, he's probably the best looking coach Joe has hired.

    WRONG!!

Pistons owner Tom Gores said in a statement. "We are very excited to have someone of his experience and talent help take this franchise into the future."

Maybe he misunderstood and thought Joe signed Cheeks as a FA PG.
