It's one thing to push a guys career by negative attitude to make him work harder, it's another to say "you won't be shooting that shot here so why are you practicing it". And that coming from the head coach.

I completely understand the boys club, but he is not part of the boys, he is the head coach. And as a head coach, you can't go cracking jokes about players, especially young players. Not like they can do the same back.

Be their coach, not another lad in the dressing room.

Anyway, that's not to say he hasn't learnt from that same incident

I hope he says that to Josh Smith about those long 2 pointers.

Did Cheeks think that Barnes was going to shoot the threes at a below .280 clip or something?

So far I haven't seen anything out of Cheeks that would indiactate that he is making the team better by being the HC.
Aside from Stuckey, I don't think that any individual player is reaping the benefits of Mo's tutelage.

The Pistons are a young team. They need a teacher. They need leadership.

Here are things that I can think of as things another coach might not be doing/getting: Jennings seems to be changing his game. Drummond is getting a boatload of playing time. Kcp is a starter. The bottom of our bench is getting opportunities. Paying fast paced game with lots of forced turnovers.

Negatives are mainly defensive so far, especially considering the quality of our big men and kcp. Jennings is a weak link and monroe is arguably below average at pf on d, but the other 3 are stellar. No excuse for being last in the league still. Pre season looked like it was blown off and they desperately needed some coaching.

I'd like to think that any coach with the ability run a NBA roster would have the sense to change BJ7's game, give Dre a boatload of run and start a lottery pick who plays a position that pretty much nobody else on the roster is suited to play.

So would I, but I could imagine ways that our last 4-5 coaches would have found reasons not to do those things.

Don't get me wrong, I'd trade Mo Cheeks for a chance to see what Charlie V can do as a player coach. I'm just playing Cheeks' advocate.

Cheeks has surprised me in a positive way. He is not Poppovich, but I was expecting a lot worse. Players are buying in. We struggled early, but never let that derail the season. Players are actually improving. The rotations seem like they actually were thought put to them and not random. He is not stuck in cement in his ways.

You could argue that Kuester and Curry were TOP 5 bad coaches of all time.

Perhaps Cheeks is the quy to credit about our offense. I don't know where we rank offensively, but we've barely had any problems with scoring. Everyone was saying how bad our offense was going to be.

We'll easily be a top 3 team in the East if we can improve defensively.

Does Cheeks not deserve credit for maximizing Stuckey's play?

We are 2 wins away from being the top 3 team in the East.

We should move him before his game goes south again.

Well this shouldn't be far away now. We've played 36 games now and the coach still hasn't worked out how to use any of the talent he has to the best advantage in a half court set. The ONLY thing we do well is run the floor.
We are actually getting worse as the season goes on. Not better after our guards were healthy, time for practice, blah blah blah,

I said it when we hired him, but there was all those options out there and we still hired a bloke with a losing record.

Say what you will about all the problems with our players - there is still talent there and Mo has not found a way to utilise it yet. I hate that we've changed our coach so many times, but it is time to cut our (continued downward spiriling) losses and see if there is someone who can make the big 3 work in the second half of the year. If not, then we fire Joe, trade Monroe and our useless bench and try to start relatively fresh.

Joe has never fired a coach mid-season. I doubt it'll come to that. Even Kuester or Curry were retained until the end of the season.
