Interesting how that mention the connection between Ewing and Checkett...how does everyone feel about Ewing stepping up to be head coach of the Pistons?

    couple quick observations

Gores is no dummy. he hired a guy smarter than himself for mentoring.
remember the owners are in opposition to the players union.
so even though detroit fans are all soft & gooey over the new piston dynamic, it is a business, and gores is an owner.

he's in a bit of a touchy position politically.
on one hand he has to be all team rah rah rah while on the other he has to play hardball as an owner to help claw back the revenue split.

plus the illegal collusion that is the NBA is a small clubby group. they've already got one guy who breaks rank in cuban. no way they want or need another one. keeping the new guy in check may mean it was suggested he pull a mentor on board. i wonder if david stern or some of the other owners made the chicklets suggestion.

other tidbit being chicklets owns entertainment venues. so it's a two'fer from a knowledge gathering standpoint. or is bringing chicklets on board a means to an end in selling off / or entering into a jv or management deal for the pine knob property? maybe gores is buttering up chicklets like a slice of day old bread, it is what gores does for a living after all..

You are on to something there. It was probably Checketts that put the bug in Gores ear to have Joe talk to Ewing.

All of the guys ahead of Ewing have more coaching experience than he, so he should still remain at the end of the list IMO

Sounds great. Being new in the business and getting your info about how Joe Dumars is doing from Joe Dumars is not optimal. A second opinion from Checketts will serve both the Pistons and Tom Gores well.
