We should be wondering also if the platelet-rich plasma therapy on Dhoward's shoulder will allow him to bang with Monroe and Dre or will he be watching from the bench in street clothes?? The last time the two teams met, Howard had 28 pts and 7 boards, while our twin towers went for 13 pts and 14 boards.
Any word on Calderon yet? And if Dwight starts, can we please, please, start Drummond and Monroe? I don't want to watch Max get dominated by Gasol, again.
Dwight is out tonight. LAKERS AT PISTONS, 1 P.M. ET « NBA.com | Ten Before Tip Blog Dwight Howard won’t play. He received platelet-rich plasma treatment on his ailing right shoulder this weekend but he’s still sore. Pau Gasol, who had 22 points and 12 rebounds against Minnesota Friday, will start again. “As soon as the pain goes away, he’ll play,” Lakers coach Mike D’Antoni said. “Hopefully, that’s next game. There’s no guarantee of that, so we’ll check it every day and see when he can go.”
Just got a tweet back from Pistons twitter feed, Calderon will not play today. Detroit Pistons @detroitpistons @marcatgsb He is not. We'll keep you posted on his status. Thanks! Hide conversation Reply Retweet Favorite More 12:43 PM - 3 Feb 13 · Details
I feel the same way, he has ability but I dont think he has a place on this team, we have a spark plug coming off the bench, and he just cant match wills ability to get into the paint at will and create.
Great game, but Pistons lose on a heart break after coming all the way back from an 18 pt 3rd quarter deficit. (98-97 loss) And oh by the way since they were down at the end of three, they extended that streak to 0-24 when trailing at the end of three)...Almost broke that trend, but a miss by Bynum off the high glass with 3.8 seconds didn't drop and then a missed alley-oop to Dre with less than 2 seconds left did not find its way into the hoop.. Unfortunately the alley-oop that Kobe fed to Clark at the end of half was the difference in the game......and will be shown on the highlights after all the superbowl highlights are discussed and disected... Good game by Bynum in bringing them back, but 18 shots?? Well his 9/18 and 10 dimes, were better than Knight 3-13 shooting, even though he did deliver 7 assists. Earl Clark and Pau Gasol 40 pts and 20 boards between them...if we could have held one of them in check..... The Lakers missed 8 FT's even without Howard playing and the greatest FT % shooter of all time Steve Nash misses 2 to leave the door open and we missed an opportunity to take a game the Lakers were trying to give us.
It was cool seeing Calderon standing up and cheering on the sidelines. I can't wait to see this guy in a Pistons uni.
Tough game to lose, but a great game to watch. The Palace was rocking like the good ole days when we actually won these games. I liked the Way Drum came back in the second half after a sub par first. I liked how he played the last 15 minutes straight and didnt seem to fatigue too much. I liked the game Singler had considering he was checking Kobe. I even liked the way Frank called most of the game, and the thought of Jose actually getting to play soon has me waiting patiently and not expecting too much. The team is exciting again and looks to be trending in the right direction.
First, great game for Bynum. He simply came in and replaced Knight half way into the 3rd quarter. We were down 18 and came back to tie the game. There were a series of dunks by Drummond off passed from Bynum, who had a very nice double double off the bench. What was so different vs. last game - Bynum had guys, in Nash and Blake, he could actually guard. Second, the refs did us no favors. Bynum was clearly pushed on an inbounds pass by Kobe, and we should have tied the game right there. Drummond was fouled by Gasol on the alley oop attempt from sideline (from Singler). No call. (Would Drummond have made one free throw to tie? He should have been given the chance.) Singler made a triple in both halves, scored otherwise, and did a pretty darn nice job guarding Kobe for us. After the starters, with Bynum instead of Knight, began closing in on LA, our subs kept the run going. (Drummond came in early for JMAX too, about a minute or so after Bynum came in, to my recollection. That was Bynum, Stuckey, Singler, CV, and Drummond. Later, it was Bynum, Knight, Singler, CV, Drummond. The last stayed in pretty much right to the end of the game. The worst part of that last unit: Knight is not a shooting guard, and we really could have used one in the game. English did play, but only in the first half. Ditto for JJ. Bynum had high plus honors, plus 13 for the game. Three things I did not like seeing. Too many jumpers from JMAX. Too many jumpers from Monroe, even though he did end having a huge double double, and too many outside shots from Knight. He is just not a shooting guard. Our starting unit, just like to start the year, with Stuckey and Knight paired up lacked enough outside shooting. Singler can't do it all. One very telling play - Stuckey was in with Bynum as the shooting guard. Stuckey got the ball wide open at the three line. And passed the ball off without even considering a shot. And we ended up with no shot on the possession. Later, when Knight replaced Stuckey, a very marginal, if any, improvement. I'd say it got worsesince Knight was having a poor shooting game and kept shooting anyway. So now, maybe tomorrow night against NY we will get to see Calderon. For sure, he will add to the outside shooting for the team. Unfortunately, coach won't probably have the guts to let him play along side a shooting guard. At least he will have Singler though. That is something at least.
Great recap Lee. That's exactly the way I saw it too. The Kobe inbound alley-oop to Clark to finish the half was definitely the play of the game. Kobe did a fine job acting there. The Pistons-play of the game came in the 4th with Drummond stealing the ball, driving up the court, dishing to Knight who posterized Gasol with a vicious one-handed slam. That got me out of my seat screaming. Good game overall. We paid the price of many missed bunnies again.
I really enjoyed watching this game. We put on a great comeback in the 4th. We're only a couple players away from winning games like this night in and night out.
