Can't say Joe got the leftovers, but Smith is was still top 5 in the FA class. Iggy would have been a better pick to address the SF, but since he went another direction, I am sure hoping Joe will adapt.

The Pistons can't trade for Rondo now. They'd have too many non-shooters on the floor.

I understand the viewpoint that this move doesn't make sense from the scribes.

Smith shined as a 4 after disappointing as a 3 where the Pistons plan to play him. If they're going to make this kind of commitment to him then they should go all in on it.

If we HAD to spend the $, I'm glad that we spent it this way instead of piecemealing a bunch of scrubs.

I initially thought the same thing, but if our young wings can knock down open jumpers I think it can work. KCP, Singler and Middleton make up a pretty decent rotation on the wings as far as shooting is concerned.

This is why I check in here (besides all the witty banter)!

Not sure what all the criticism is about. We have 3 bigs that could each get 32 min/game at PF and C. If that turns out to be the case, I'm 100% down with bringing Drummond off the bench.

In reality, all 3 will probably start and then they will quickly settle into a 3 man rotation at PF/C for 75% of the game.

Ideally, there will never be a moment of a meaningful game when one of these guys is not on the court.

Just think about what we are paying theses guys this season: $14M for Smith. $4.1M for Monroe. $2.5M for Drummond. $20M total for arguably the best 3 big man combo in the league. And we have Drummond locked in for another 2 years after this season!

In addition, 2 of our 3 bigs are unusually good and willing passers. Drummond bobbled 2 passes last year and still dove on the floor to get the ball and ended up dunking in each instance.

We're not going to win a Championship next year and we're locking him in for 4 years. I'm not overly worried about floor spacing next season. It's time to once again establish a defensive reputation and team identity. We should be aiming for a chance at a ship in '15/16.

Also, we're stuck in the Eastern Conference in the Age of Lebron. If you don't have a guy that can at least pretend to guard him, what's the point in anything?

those articles are no more hater article than some posts being homer posts. nobody around the leagues seems to agree with anything upper management is doing.

truthfully i don't think is a great fit either.

Let me tell you why those are hater articles.

Because they, and many of the posts in this forum as well, presume all sorts of things.

The game is played between whistles. Who plays where for how many minutes remains to be seen.

I think the National writers are underestimating Drummond as well. It is really rare to have the big man foundation that we have.

Easy for that to happen when they don't watch any Pistons games.

I feel like we've been waiting for a quick 3 man rotation from the Pistons longer than we've been waiting for a big free agent to sign.

They couldn't do a quick rotation last year when it was Monroe, Maxey and Drummond.

Knight and Pope can both stroke the 3, right?

The current NBA Champion had the following starting lineup and 3-point shooting:

    Mario Chalmers: .409
D Wade: .284 (only 17 made all year)
    Lebron: .406
    Haslem: N/A (0 attempts)
    Bosh: .284 (21 makes)

    2 guys that are threats.

    Knight
    Pope
    Smith
    Monroe
    Drummond

2 guys that are threats. We can easily insert Singler at SF if we need some space. Or even Villanueva at PF. BK/KP/JS/CV/AD would be weird, but might work.

Josh Smith's career 3-point % is the same as Wade's was last year at shooting guard. It's bad, but still nice to have. And last year, Smith was over .300 with 61 makes (indicating that he wasn't just shooting wide open shots).

The signing is good news for the inconsistent D we played last year. Not good for shooting, although I like the added presence inside the paint with Smith. I don't get all the talk about trading for Rondo, since the Celtics are making it a point of building a new team around him. He's a trouble maker as well, so all this trade talk is rather nonsense.

Yes, but in the Playoffs, when it really matters, they played most of the time with Chalmers, Wade, Ray Allen, Lebron James and Chris Bosh, 5 guys that can hit the 3. (well, Wade can't, so it's really 4.. but sometimes Miller and Battier showed up in that spot)

are you really considering CV in the rotation??? Are we really THAT BAD??

When hot, CV can seriously stroke it. I think we may need his floor spacing, more than want it.
