I agree to an extent. I think all players have their place and their price. If Gordon was signed for $7-8 mil and CV at $4-5, that would be a totally different story. Joe was taking a risk in expecting both to perform at their best, and he did not leave any money for a back up plan in case this backfired like it did tying his hands. They didn't perform and he couldn't do anything with those contracts.

I liked Ben Gordon, too, but I'm not sure I have admitted it publicly until now.

I said CV had the potential to be our leading scorer. I hit that one out of the park.

If you had qualified that by leading with "Per minute in garbage time, when out of contention for the playoffs", you could well have been right.

More than the $$ it was the 5 years both Gordon and Chuckles got.

Crabs is easier to get rid of than those two.

Anybody know what the record for most coaches under one GM is? I'm wondering if JD has set the record.

I have not gone through historical records, but looking at the current GMs, not counting coaches that stepped up mid-season and were not given the reins the following season:

    - Geoff Petrie of Kings, the longest serving GM (since 1994) since last summer had 7 coaches
    - Dumars is on his 8th coach since 2000

The other long-serving GM (Buford, Cupcake, Riley etc) have been loyal to their coaches, going through 3-4 during their tenure. All other GMs have not been at their posts long enough to challenge Dumars' record of coaches.

Given all that, it's not unreasonable to think that Dumars has built a reputation for throwing coaches under the bus. Perhaps that's why he has been unable to land a good coach since Larry Brown.

It's hard to tell if a guy can coach if he doesn't have the players to give him a chance for success.
