According to Bill Evans at NBA.Com

"If they can keep their 50 game win streak alive for another season, the season should be considered a success".

I think this guy is just another career Piston hater. But by far the worst I have ever read is this guy Mark Heisler at the L.A. Times. He hasn't had a good thing to write about the Pistons since they stopped the Lakers ass in the the 89 Finals.

This is exactly what our Pistons need to hear. They play much better when they have a chip on their shoulder. They don't handle it very well when everybody is patting them on the back.

I believe that a different side of the question needs to be addressed: is it worth losing an extra 10-12 games in order to play the bench and develop an accelerated upbeat tempo?

    YES!

I'll take 52-54 wins, rested starters and a confident and battle tested bench going into the playoffs any day.

Miami was 52-30 last season and was the 2nd seed. So even with losing an extra 10-12 this season, we'd still be in the running for the 1st seed in the East. Yeah, I'll take that.

it's not that hard to make the playoffs in the east, so we might as well develop our bench and not worry about seeding. we weren't 1st seed when we won the championship anyway.

The Pistons won 54 games in each of the '04 and '05 seasons, and then 64 last year. Nobody should expect a repeat of last year's regular season, but winning in the low to mid 50s wouldn't be a drop-off at all from the finals seasons under LB.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the Spurs struggle the first half of the 05 season and come on strong at the end? If so, the last three winners were teams that didn't really hit their stride until February or March. Peaking too early is dangerous.

Amen to the two main thoughts I have seen so far in this thread. I would much rather the Pistons peak later in the season, well into the second half. And I would rather go into the playoffs with a rested starting crew and a battle tested bench.

In addition, I would rather have a team that plays well on the road than having the best home-court record.

Big ben was worth 15 + Wins 3 years ago. I don't think his body can take the punishment now. His stats are falling and the intimdation factor is not as strong as it was in the past. At the most I think he can provide the spark to win 5 to 8 more wins.

As long as this team starts winning many games in April, May, and June it won't matter. In 05 this Piston team played horrible early, but played great at the end. If a couple of calls, or plays went the Pistons way that team would of been champs.

Ben wasn't worth 15 wins a year. I'd say he was more in the 10-12 range. Of course see that dropping a tad bit again. Since 04 Ben has been good, but not as good.

Ben in Flip's system is not worth 15+wins.

Ben in Chicago's system....sounds pretty close.

    Amen.

I don`t have the stats but I am willing to bet that the team that wins the ship each year is a very good road team that has peaked at the right time.

Those two ingredients will guarantee a long and winning season.

Ben was definitely worth a bunch of wins - 15..hmmm that # is sorta high, but I will say this, he won`t be worth 15 more wins to Chicago. They were a team barely above 500 last year and they will be the same this year. Around the 45-46 win area.

Good observations. It seems Chi Town is going to have a nice winter if the Black Hawks can continue to win?. Bears are doing great and Bulls certainly look on paper and during the exhibition schedule thus far that they will have more than a decent team.

I like your quote from Stern. Was that from David Stern or Howard Stern?

Actually before the Bad Boys taught the NBA how to play defense the only defense that was played in the NBA was by the home court officials!!
